Cobra Kai - The Karate Kid Saga Continues

It's OK. Entertaining but

They are really dragging out the tournament storyline. I would have expected it to be wrapped up within these five episodes.

Seems they've creatively run out of steam. But it's fine.

I watched the first 10 minutes of the first episode just released and all the characters are unbearable. Even the adults seem like complete morons. Tell me it gets better because I'm really having trouble going on, even though I've already watched all the other seasons.

It felt like build up to me to be honest. Putting pieces into place.

With Tory going back to Cobra Kai, in part due to the grief over her moms passing, Kreese trying to prove he's not weak, Johnny wanting to branch out/disagreeing with Daniel or Mr. Miagi. It all feels like it's leading towards more.

It feels cohesive to me.

Guesses...

Tory has to find out and realize that she's not alone. That people care about her.

Kreese needs to get over his own ego.

Johnny was right about Mr. Miagi. Daniel needs to accept the fact that he was human. He can still appreciate him, despite his flaws/faults.

Really liked part 2. Came close with a bit of my guesses too.

Tory seems to be realizing some things.

Kreese has a long way to go. Silver's reappearance was a kick in his face. Considering what he did there, brought back Silver's dark side... he brought things on himself. But it was interesting to see Cobra Kai be a bit of a red herring with the Daniel/Miyagi stuff tho.

Yep. Johnny was definitely right there about Miyagi.

The kid finding Kreese's knife and being killed by it seems to be a parallel to the death in the earlier Saikai Taikai that Miyagi was in.

Guesses:

Cobra Kai and Miyagi Do will have to work together against Silver.

Daniel will find out about what caused the death at the Saikai Taikai that Miyagi was in.

Tori will quit Cobra Kai.

The Korean lady will end up dating Chozen.

I think your guesses are pretty spot on. I would add:

I think Silver will die. And I suspect the truth about Miyagi is that he used to be "cobra kai" in his philosophy when he was young. He was very much like Kreese or Johnny, out of to win at all cost, consumed with aggression, and it led to the accidental death of his opponent in the Saikai Taikai. And it was that death that made Miyagi give up karate and adopt the more defensive philosophy of Miyagi-do that he teaches later. I think this will lead into the moral message of the final episodes that this obsession with karate competition is not healthy. It only leads to anger, aggression, vengeance and ultimately self-destruction. It will parallel the question Tori asked, "is it worth it?". The answer is "no", I think we see Johnny is learning this lesson as he is trying to settle down and have a family. Daniel had learned this lesson at the start of S1 but got sucked back into the competitive world of karate. He will learn this lesson again and be able to finally give up karate. I think Amanda is going to flip out from the death of the student and really pressure Daniel to give up competitive karate for the sake of their kids. I think the death of the Cobra Kai captain will lead Daniel to realize that things have gone too far. I think we will see many of the kids also give up karate and move on with their lives. Sadly, I think the villains like Silver and Kreese won't learn this lesson and it will lead to their downfall.

Problem with the bottom theory is we got a new Karate Kid movie coming up soon that will have Daniel in it.

So revised theory:
So maybe Daniel does not quit karate but gains a new enlightenment where he finally finds the right balance about karate and is no longer conflicted about Miyagi

Those are some good guesses. But maybe Daniel readjusts things with Miyagi Do, taking the new movie into account.

That being said, I've been wondering about Silver since last season. Thinking that he's trying to do as much chaos and destruction that he can do while he still can. IIRC, I think that he was sick. 🤔

And all the things tied together make absolute sense.

So revised theory:

Exactly.

I think that would work. I like the idea that he will still teach kids but not enter tournaments anymore. Johnny on the other hand still is okay with teaching and being in tournaments but is now in a place were the money is good enough, as the number one teacher in the valley, to help provide for his family. He started off the show doing shit jobs and not having any money but is now well off that he can provide things like a college savings someday for the new baby. Plus him and Danny or now good friends as well. Will never be eye to eye on lots of things but they realize that they are both each other's best friend.

Theory about the movie:
Mr. Myagi (in the first film? Can’t remember exactly) mentioned (from the Wiki):
Mr. Miyagi's ancestor was Shimpo Miyagi, who accidentally landed in China in 1625. He returned to Okinawa many years later with a wife, children, and the art of Karate. Once back in Okinawa, he developed the style of Karate specific to the Miyagi family.
Is it possible that Mr. Han is from the family in China where Myagi’s ancestor learned martial arts? Could he even be Myagi’s extended family member (vis-a-vis Shimpo’s wife) tracing through an unbroken lineage from 400 years ago? Han’s pacifist philosophy very much mirrors Myagi’s (at least, post-tournament) in practice. I’m thinking Daniel’s search for answers will inevitably lead him directly to Han.

Dunno, but in the recent promotional releases for the movie, they go on to say, 'two branches, one tree." And that's in reference to their similar philosophies despite them both using different martial arts, Karate and Kung-Fu.

I had a very difficult time getting through the first episode of part 2, but there was improvement after that. The Chozen storyline has been a hoot. I pretty much enjoy everything with Johnny. I simply cannot take the teen angst and Daniel being a nonstop drama queen anymore. The return of Silver seems unnecessary and the story feels really drawn out. The last fight was

For a prediction, I'll go with Miyagi killing the dude with the same move the guy used when Silver was watching at the fight bar. Hence why the move is now banned at the tournament (at least I thought they said it was banned, I don't feel like checking).

I'm enjoying the season so far, but...

Daniel's obsessive search about Mr. Miyagi's past is actually annoying. I don't think it's his place to be doing that. He didn't tell Daniel about that era for a reason... maybe he should respect that because people don't have to share everything about their past before they knew you. It's called privacy. Mr. Miyagi clearly was trying to leave all that behind, and didn't want Daniel to know. I think it's rather disrespectful of him to keep digging like this. Honor the man and all he did while you knew him, not mess with something he clearly was not willing to share with people.

Only 5 more episodes to go before COBRA KAI is over. It was definitely a fun ride.

I enjoyed part 2 more than part 1. It still had many of the same problems, of course: the repetitiveness (how many times did Robbie look over to Tori then lose a point?), characters being unbearably stupid (Dimintri and Hawk not trusting Kenny was really dumb), Daniel's obsession with Miyagi...but at least it had a lot of fun, silly, karate fun! It was a great move to have different styles of fights in the tournament rather than just one on ones. I wondering how they were going to get out of resolving the tournament in these five episodes, I should have guessed the answer would be "crazy karate rumble!" And Chozen and Kim hooking up was hilarious.

So apparently completely separate from Cobra Kai, but I'm guessing still in the same universe?
