CNN... Space idiots!

Yes, we know. That being said, Ares V may never see a production facility in the aftermath of the Augustine Commission report and whatever action the Obama administration takes based on the report.

IF built, the Ares V will displace the Saturn V as record heavy lifter, with 188,000 kg to LEO compared to the Saturns 118,000 kg.

Until such time as Ares V exists as an artifact, CNN is still incorrect, and we bemoan that. Gone are the days of journalists on TV.

I'll stick with my assertation that the reporter and producer didn't know what they were talking about.

As long as there is a Saturn Vs in a museum somewhere it remains "The worlds largest rocket". For example, no one would say that the Spruce Goose isn't the plane with the longest wingspan just because it's in a museum and will never fly again.

ARES V has more chance of seeing production than ARES I at this point based on the Augustine Commission report.

Graphic under the Ares-I images

"WORLD'S LARGEST ROCKET DELAYED AGAIN"

Umm... it's some 40-ish feet short of a Saturn V, and has nowhere near the payload capacity.

Its an accurate statement....the Saturn V is rusting away on the lawn at NASA.

RAMA

That's the one at Johnson Space Center. The KSC one is actually indoors in a beautiful facility and looks great.

(and it's actually a composite of a few Saturn V rocket components)

The Johnson Spaceflight Center Saturn has been restored, is under shelter and on display.

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center Saturn V has been restored, is under shelter and on display.

The KSC Saturn V has been restored, is under shelter and on display.

The last three examples of the most powerful machine mankind has produced are preserved for posterity.

You just do that. Doesn't mean you're right.

Dosen't mean you are either. Just remember that we're talking about the news organization that said Columbia was travelling how fast during re-entry?

That's right, C*18.

You've GOT to be kidding! It's hard to believe that that's not a photoshopped pic.

yea, obviously the person that typed in the text at CNN meant "sound" when they typed "light".

Still damn funny!

I can't speak about CNN specific operations, but usually the CG graphics are generated from the news script software and sent electronically to the CG device. Generally the people creating those scripts and consequently the graphics are news producers, reporters, or anchors.

and? how does this affect what I said?

Well presumably reporters, producers, and anchors have college educations. Production assistants, CG operators, and the like are generally not college educated.

My point being that in theory, the people responsible for the blunder should damn well know better.

It's my understanding that a most college educated people don't know what the speed of light equals.
