Class series one discussion thread (spoilers)

I'll be watching these tonight so will feed back with my thoughts tomorrow. I'm surprised we have not seen more reaction to the show on here yet I was looking forward to reading some reviews before I started watching!

I went in to with pretty low expectations, I think, but I was still pretty dissapointed in the first episode. The characters didnt feel likeable, because they didnt feel real, apart from maybe Ms Quill but I felt like we were and are supposed to agree with her enslavement which I dont like.
It also felt rushed which is quite an achievement for a 50 minute episode.
5/10

The second episode has given me a new hope for this show. It is a better episode. Better baddie, better character development, better plot. Not much better but certainly better.
I do like the characters more now; with the exception of April who I like less. I dont even know if I really know who she is supposed to be. I hope they change her soon.
6/10

I do like this show and I hope it succeeds. I love sci-fi, love fantasy and love shows set around school.
I like that there is so much diversity in the cast - refreshing. I hope they create a few storylines around the diversity and dont just ignore it. They have already sort of done this in episode 2 with Rams disability(?) but I hope they dont just let him recover and become super-bionicle man too soon - It'd be nice to explore that issue a bit more first.
Its also nice to see a bit of skin every now and again

I've only seen the first episode so far. I didn't really follow the promotional run-up to the show so I expected a series in the mold of the Sarah Jane Smith Adventures. So I was a bit shocked at the intense violence and grim backstory. And it looks like the second ep will follow suit.
I don't know what to make of this show, yet. It's rather quirky and weird. I laughed at some of the jokes. I couldn't really relate to the characters but maybe that's the point. I didn't know the Doctor would show up so that was a pleasant surprise even if his appearance fell flat. The first ep definetely suffered from uneven writing.

The first episode did feel like the most typical spin-off pilot of all time. "I can't be in all places at once, so you'll have to take care of things for me. Buh-bye until I re-appear, which is never!"

Really meh. There are some good one-liners mixed in, but most of the characters are really bland and unmemorable. Except for Ms. Quill, she's cool, but the others really leave no impression on me. There's the jock, the outsider, the team "alpha," and the quiet unassuming one.

Granted, I've never been one for teen drama, even when I was a teenager I could never relate to them, and that included teen dramas that are embraced by geek culture like Buffy or Smallville or whatever. That being said, I was quite impressed with SJA and I thought a different take on the Who Universe might be worth a shot.

Of course, it doesn't help the stories of the episodes weren't all that great either. The first one was saddled with the need to set everything up. Introducing the characters, establishing the backstories for the aliens (who come off as the Vashta Nerada with a social order), getting the stuff about the prom, the killings, cameo by the Doctor, and so on. It was all over the place.

The second one had a bit more focus, it just wasn't that interesting. A fairly generic tale of the sports star and the hard-ass coach, when ends up being connected to the alien threat killing people. Endless harping on the death from Ep. 1, which I get it, something like this doesn't just wash away after a few days. But it stands out like a sore thumb when a few other characters are killed off, one of which was someone who had a minor recurring presence during S8 of Doctor Who, and all this is just sort of "oh well, then that happened." The stuff with the robot pretending to be an inspector was kind of interesting, and I assume is setting up something to be explored further on.

I don't know about this show. I'll check out the next one, but so far it's not leaving much of an impression. It's not bad per se, but it's really not that good either.

I enjoyed it, the second episode was better. Miss Quill is by far the most entertaining character, the brooding prince is very vanilla and forgetable.

I’ve only seen the first episode so far. I thought it was ok, Miss Quill was the best thing in it by miles though, well aside from Capaldi, though I had expected him to have more of a cameo. The annoying thing with Capaldi is that I forget how much I like his Doctor until I see him again, so when he turned up it was a bit distracting because I just wished I was watching a new series of Who instead.

The younger cast are ok. None of them are particularly annoying yet, though they do seem quite vanilla and cookie cutter. Only first episode though so maybe they’ll flesh out a bit.

Some bits were quite interesting, but I still don’t see anything that will lift this above the level of British Buffy clone yet. Seeing Katherine Kelly in school uniform was worth tuning in for alone however!

I have not heard much about this new series- where is it being broadcast and hopefully is it anywhere where it can get streamed here in the US?

I was pretty underwhelmed by the pilot so I haven't watched the second episode yet. I hope it will be better as I've read here.

The reviews are pretty much what I expected. Unless the show sounds like it improves drastically, I'm probably not going to bother.

It's a Doctor Who spinoff aimed at a demographic I'm far removed from, so I'm not going in with full critical faculties blazing. As it is, I quite liked the first two episodes. Reminds me of how I feel about a lot of the Moffat era -- often not as good as I'd like it to be, but hey, it's Doctor Who, there's still enough fun to be had. And both of these episodes are a lot better than, say, Kill the Moon or Nightmare in Silver.

That ass, though. Damn.

Didnt really do much for me as I didnt find him very good looking to begin with. It was nice seeing the alien kids body when he was getting ready for bed and also quite nice to see in to the locker rooms, for a brief moment, when they're all getting changed.
God I'm a pervert :crazy::drool::hugegrin:
