Chuck Wendig fired by Marvel.

I'll admit, I wasn't really a fan of Wendig's work on the Aftermath novels. But this is still horseshit, all the same.

It'll be interesting to see if all these situations like this start to have effect on how many people are willing to work for companies like Disney/Marvel. I could see a lot of people becoming more hesitant after Gunn and now Wendig.

People who dislike him to have their anuses prolapsed, to eat shit and mud. Apparently twitter also suspended him temporarily for those remarks

And it must have been a recent incident to cause this, as the comics he was working on were only announced a couple weeks back, if they were considering firing him I don't think they would have been announced at all.

That must have been after I was on his Twitter. That is pretty bad, but honestly, if things were getting as bad for him as his statements makes it sound, I kind of can't blame him for losing his temper.
My feelings on things like that really depend on the context, if it was just occasional people with legitimate criticisms, then yeah that is a real asshole move and overreaction, but on the other hand if he was constantly being harassed by idiots over every little thing, then I can understand losing it and telling people, more or less, to fuck off.

I just want to know if certain mysterious references in those books were part of some kind of overall long-term plan on Lucasfilm's part or just Wendig's own independent ideas. Were they related to similar references in the Episode 8 novelization? Do they somehow tie into Rebels? Were they setting something up for episode 9?

This story has surprising amount of national coverage. Maybe it's because it's Star Wars. It's somehow way bigger than the "current Editor in Chief at Marvel once pretended to be a Japanese man to sell books and get paid for two jobs at the same time."

Just because they aren't toxic doesn't mean they can't be dicks and treated as such.

If you want to seek out people who don't like you or vehemently disagree with your politics online, it doesn't take long, but investing a lot of energy into fighting with them is a huge waste of effort at minimum, and could be bad PR depending on your employer.

Anyone in the entertainment field knows that they shouldn't read their own reviews, for instance. Negative feedback goes with the territory. You can't please all the people all the time and to get in their face and try to attack them for not liking your work is, again, a huge waste of time. They're not going to change their opinions and all it does is broadcast that you have a fragile ego. Really, a LOT of people crusading online are doing it out of ego-stroking and are merely deluding themselves into thinking it serves some higher, nobler purpose.

Yeah, I was looking through a whole bunch of other writers' Twitter feeds yesterday, and all most all of them commented in some way on this whole situation, pretty much all in support of Wendig. It looks like it's become a pretty big deal in SFF writing community.

It's not a nice situation and presents an uncomfortable future for other writers. People either shut up and keep the right people happy or lose their job. It's a form of suppression.
