Chuck returning early?!

The only thing I don't like is that the Season 2 DVDs aren't out yet! Maybe this will get them released earlier, too!

Yeah, that'd be nice. I've been waiting for those.

If the show does come back early, I'd expect to see the Season 2 DVD sets next month, in time for holiday shopping.

I would love to have it back early, but I don't think it's good for the show.

There would be little to no build up for the return. As opposed to advertising it during the Olympics, this would involve advertising it during NBC's current programming (equivalent to screaming in an empty room).

And I think the lack of Season 2 DVD's will hurt it as well.

I would LOVE to have the show back early, but as Indy says above, if NBC doesn't give it the promotion it needs, it could hurt the show in the long run.

However, I *do* miss the gang from the BuyMore. The show really picked up in the second season. I kinda miss it now.

I am all for it's early return. I shall plan to get a Subway footlong to enjoy when the first episode of the new season airs.

The earlier the return the earlier the asses at NBC can cancel it!

NBC's becoming a lot like The CW. With the way their ratings look, they can't afford to cancel it unless they want to Leno themselves out of existence as a viable television network.

I realize full well that they could do it, but they're in such dire straits without any alternate programming that will bring in viewers that it would be just adding another shovel-full of dirt into their grave.

They canceled Southland before an episode even aired! They are a channel full of shit and yet they are canceling shows that can't be any worse than Trauma or Mercy.

That had more to do with Jay Leno than anything else. With Leno taking the weeknight 10pm slot, the shows that were actually geared for that time of night got screwed.

But Chuck has always been an 8pm family friendly show, so it is in a whole different situation.

Maybe, but when I start hearing about shows like Day One being cut back to a mini-series because of financial reasons, and that money was as much a factor in cancelling Southland and replacing it with a news show as it was the so-called "darkness" of the series ... I'm convinced there's something going terribly wrong at NBC. And someone compared it to The CW a few posts back. Actually comparing it to UPN might be more like it. I'm getting the same sort of vibes as I did when UPN started cancelling shows as much for money reasons as for ratings reasons (not just Enterprise, either, but things like Kevin Hill) ... not long after, we suddenly saw it merge with another network.

If ABC and CBS were doing a lot of this schitck I'd just chalk it up to the recession and other factors hammering mainstream networks. But except for delaying the new V (which may have been as much a creative decision than anything else) and a couple minor things, I haven't seen the same sort of behavior NBC has been showing these past couple of months. Something's going seriously pear-shaped over there.

(BTW I'm not including Fox in this because they've proven themselves to be utterly unpredictable so who knows what's going through their heads these days.)

We can't blame Leno for everything. If NBC didn't want Southland than they could have canceled it last year and let the actors find new jobs. It's not like NBC didn't know Leno would be wasting 5 hours of TV a week.

Plus NBC asked the creators to change the show around to make it fit into the new NBC, and then they cancel it!

Southland is also supposedly quite cheap and only cost 1.5 million an episode, it's why TNT is looking into the show because they would get 6 episodes for pretty much free (WB shot those for NBC, so NBC is paying), and 1.5 million an episode for a show that has several million viewers is pretty good.

I know it's easy to rag on NBC these days, but looking at the change in their numbers this season vs the other networks shows a much different picture than the conventional wisdom would predict.

TV by the Numbers has a post about the networks this season, and it shows that ABC has lost a larger percentage of viewers over last season than NBC has.

Now, I understand that Football is propping up NBC, and that the network is in terrible shape, but by listening to people you'd think what was happening at NBC was unlike anything at any of the other networks. And that's clearly not the case.

When you have more viewers you are more likely to lose more viewers! Also you clearly don't understand TV, you don't matter unless you are in the 18-34 age range which NBC is losing the most, even with football!

TVbythenumbers stats are always horrible and wrong. The site is hugely overrated and should only be used to look at the actually viewer data and not the bullshit they make up.

You know, if you spent half as much time trying to talk with people here as you do trying to prove to us how smart you are your posts would be a hell of a lot more interesting.

As to your first point, you might notice that my post did mention percentages and did not mention total numbers of viewers. o I'm not real sure what you were trying to prove by bringing it up.

As to your next point, you'll notice that I described NBC as being in "terrible shape". I also noted that it would be in even worse shape were it not for the NFL. I just found it interesting that of the 5 major networks there is only 1 that has done a better job of retaining last year's viewers and yet the others get a pass.

As to your last statement, well...Forgive me if I don't just take your word for it.

Big Daddy was convinced that they were going to cancel Chuck last season. Or rather, he was fanatically rooting for it's cancellation. His tears tasted wonderful btw.

We get it BD. You don't like Chuck. We do. Get over it.
