Multiple-emmy winning actor known for such shows as Night Court (where he played "Dan Fielding" and why I misspoke and called him "Dan"), the Practice and Boston Legal. I recognized him as soon as I heard his voice.

I imagine Night Court was his only claim to fame at the time, and I've never seen it. I've never seen The Practice or Boston Legal, either.

And I don't know what the objections were to CL's Kruge-- he was like a Klingon Fu Manchu.

But, seriously, his performance did not work for me one bit. I kept hearing Jim Ignatowski threatening Kirk. And, while tastes obviously vary, it appears I am not the only one.

Yeah, I've heard that before. Tastes do indeed vary, because I thought he played ruthless very well-- and with a style that contrasted nicely with Khan's "civilized" ruthlessness in the previous film.

Fair enough. I was simply explaining for anyone who didn't know who he was. (He was also the narrator of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, btw)

I was a big Night Court fan at the time so I recognized his voice immediately. I also knew him from Stripes.

I agree with you. They did a great makeup job to make him nearly indistinguishable, but at the same time, it's likely the iconic voice that make it not work as well for me. I mean, it's great that they got Christopher Lloyd, but this just proves that even all great actors aren't meant for everything. Some things just don't work as some actors will stand out more, and this is one of them.

Exactly. Lloyd is usually brilliant but even the best actors sometimes get a role that doesn't work for them. This one happened to be his.

^^ I'd be happy to see them both in a new BTTF movie, perhaps as mentors to their own children. They could just make MJF's illness part of older Marty's character.

More like the prototype. He was an evil genius, like Doctor Doom or whoever, who happened to be Chinese, but there was nothing particularly racist about him. There were, however, a zillion imitations and most of them probably were.

Well, Christopher Lloyd did reprise his role for the Telltale game, and I think that's about as close as we'll get to a new BTTF movie. The guy that did the voice of Marty was very good as well.

I didn't even know it was John Larroquette until the credits rolled.

I knew it was him the second that he spoke. Like Lloyd, Larroquette has a very distinct voice.

To the G-man, if they really were shooting for Trek vs NBC Thursdays, they really needed to have Markie Post as an Orion slave girl.

Sometimes I feel blessed that I have trouble recognizing actors in other roles like Brown and John Larroquet. Especially when they're in makeup like that. Hell, back in the day I didn't realize Michael Dorn was black until several years into TNG.

I don't think he's really milking it for money, so much as he simply loves playing Doc Brown.

That's pretty much what I think as well. I remember reading an interview about that some time back where he said that he really enjoyed playing Doc Brown.

Nor Baa Baa Black Sheep / Black Sheep Squadron, which was the first place I saw Larroquette (eight years prior to Night Court's first episode.)
