While most 50s/60s stuff I dislike, the horror films from those years were special. I think part of it were the settings. All things that are familiar to us, that have now become lost in time -- the rustic villages, the mansions with big furniture and hidden rooms, and the candle and gas lighting adding their bit to the quiet psychic mood of the film. I thought he was dead, my bad.
