Christmas Shopping

She doesn't need "stuff". Get her something useful, like lotions, perhaps stock up her pantry/fridge or even get some kind of membership to a service that delivers meals to the elderly (naturally, you foot the bill, but that's what a present is).

These actually sound like the opposite of what I want to do. She's bored all the time. The last thing I want to do is take away her errands and her cooking. I need to get her something constructive that she can work on.

What the hell does one buy an 85-year old woman for Christmas? This was much easier when I was a little kid and could just make my grandma some sort of craft. :p

Gift card to the stupormarket she shops in? Restaurant gift cards so she doesn't have to cook? Does she still drive?

She drives. She's actually in very good health (now that we found out that her previous doctor had been killing her slowly via her medication).

I have an 84 year old mother in law and she is SO hard to buy for.

I usually go for anything in her favorite color, which is purple: purple coffee mugs, purple blouse, purple shawl, whatever.

Also, things that look fancy but really aren't: glass candy dishes and vases.

Also, robes, slippers, food baskets and jewelery --all pretty much acceptable and seem to go over well.

Is she on teh InterWeb Thingy? Perhaps getting her online will alleviate her boredom?

We have been TRYING for YEARS to get her online, and she's finally starting to warm up to it.

However, we're doing Secret Santa this year, and there is a $60 limit. Not really enough to buy her a computer and set up an internet connection.

$60 will buy a nice, used handgun. She can have loads of fun with one year round. :)

Hmmmm.....how about $60 worth of lottery tickets? The scratch off kind. My father in law loves those. He's 86.

Last Christmas I got her disposable cameras and a photo album so she could take pictures DURING Christmas to keep her occupied. She loved it. I kind of want to do it again, but her memory is too good!
