Christmas 08: the Next Doctor. Review

But the point was he didn't NEED to regenerate in The Stolen Earth - he just had the convoluted circumstances around him to allow him to use the process but possibly not a life to heal the damage.

And it made for a brilliant cliffhanger.

It was a brilliant cliffhanger yes, but as with many brilliant cliffhangers the resolution left a lot to be desired...Seems odd that one can use regenerative energy-without regenerating- to survive a Dalek blaster, but not, say, a fall, or poison...or even slipping over and banging your head on the TARDIS console

Apparently Tennant has asked RTD for a "Caves of Androzani" exit.

I hope RTD interpreted that as "must feature cleavage".

RTD 'Yeah David I know exactly what you mean...' <Then goes off to write a scene featuring a man in a badly fitting dragon suit>

One has to somewhat fear just how dramatic and heroic Tennant's exit will be! The greatest thing about Davison's 'death' is that he doesn't die saving the universe, or defeating the entire Dalek race, he dies saving one woman. I hope in this instance that RTD can restrain himself from going over the top...however I somewhat doubt it

Knowing RTD, 10 will die saving the entire multiverse from the jaws of oblivion. And someone will have a 25 minute speech about how wonderful and brilliant the Doctor is. And Take That will have a cameo.

Don't even joke! Obviously the jaws of oblivian will be literal as the Daleks turn the moon into a giant head or something that threatens to swallow the Earth and then the multiverse...

Do you think RTD will be able to keep the speech down to just 25 minutes?? ;)

Oh absolutely. The jaws will be 50 AUs wide, and billions of Daleks will line up and form tiny little teeth.

Patrick Stewart to cameo as Uriel Septim.

You heard it here first folks!

And the universe will be doomed...until the Doctor handily unplugs the jaws of oblivion and all the Daleks plumet to their deaths...

As annoying as that was - more for the week of people ignoring me telling them Tennant was staying - RTD did at least explain it. As loose and balls as it was.

Jack showing up in a with his gun pre-aimed at a Dalek annoyed me a lot more. And Billie Pipers acting.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to just skip over this Doctor's death episode, because I know it's going to have to be some huge, epic Event that tries to top all the other big finales we've gotten.

And as much as I loved Stolen Earth and Journey's End, I'm not sure I could take another one of those so soon. lol

Saw the episode, I liked it.

I was really hoping he was really the next doctor though. I'm getting a little tired how easily it is to "create a Doctor" these days. From cloning, to memory stamps.

Doctor Jesus is at it again, a little too heavy there, typical RTD though.

I loved the robot.

I wish that Lake, a broken and shattered man, had realized that the pieces of the Doctor he used to plaster over the cracks in his mind made him better, that he could still be the hero. Why? Because that's the message of the fourth season -- the Doctor makes people better. The Doctor, even though he didn't meet Jackson Lake until that morning in the snow, had made Lake better, had been a profound influence on his life.

Very well said! In fact, that core story could have been done entirely without Cybermen and giant stomping things and whatever (assuming we have an alternate explanation for Lake's getting the Doctor-memories, which is easy enough to handwave).

To me, that was what the episode was about (the Lake stuff), while the giant stomping thing was just something that happened along the way that I wasn't really paying much attention to. I think it's because I watch so much tv that way - picking out the stuff that appeals to me or strikes a chord with me and not much paying attention to the other stuff. I think it's because I like the people stuff more than the monster stuff. Aftetr having said that, it is Doctor Who we're tallking about here, so I suppose they have to have monsters in there somewhere ... (j/k ;)).

I mean, to be fair, it's not like the Doctor ever had a severed limb sitting around before that he could dump his regenerative energy into.

And since he won't ever have the Severed Hand of Destiny (TM) around anymore, I'd say no harm, no foul! ;)

Considering that Time Lord's can chop off their hands (and one would assume feet, maybe even arms and legs) within the first couple days of regeneration and grow them back instantly, and with no visable side effects, harm, etc, then it would seem to me that the Doctor should now make a habit of butchering himself with a meat cleaver and getting extra hands, feet, etc to keep around.

Kinda like extra lives in a super mario bros. game...

Well, that assumes that circumstances allow the Doctor to chop off his limbs within the necessary timeframe of his regeneration. If he's busy dealing with a crisis.... ;)

Finally got a chance to watch it today. I gotta say meh. I think its lost a bit of its charm for me.

It just didn't click with me for some reason, might have to watch it again.

True, plus he's not normally thinking straight just after regeneration!! I guess as well that even if you know you can grow it back, hacking a limb off takes some guts!

Btw good point about the hand Sci :bolian:

Well he could teach Luke Skywalker a thing or two. :techman:
