Could anyone please define this? Proponents of time travel always use the "done properly" argument, but often never give any clarity on how it could be "done properly"

Organic and necessary to the plotline where the time travel gives layers of meaning to not just this film but other things as well. Much as it served say Babylon 5 in "War Without End" (great model for timetravel) or "First Contact" or "The Voyage Home" - those are examples of doing it properly.

Anyone can see how Trek has done it improperly. In fact, it seems like it isn't textbook Trek time travel if it's not done improperly.

So can anyone give me an exmaple of how time travel can be done properly in Trek XI?

As far as NOT done properly goes, those who roll their eyes to it probably think --

A. It's merely a plot gimmick. And, I'm not sure that's been a problem with TOS, anyway. Except maybe for "Assignment Earth". That was a contrived piece of excrement to showcase what Roddenberry hoped would be a new TV show.

B. That it's too easy. Again, other than in "Assignment Earth", I can't think of a TOS episode where deliberate time travel was not considered inexact and on the cutting edge of what was possible. A daring thing.
