Heh, i thought of you guys when they talked about Chris's nose.

I wish they had some of the actors in the commentary too. There was rarely any dead air which was neat.

I thought the discussion on waiting til the end of the movie to play the classic theme was right-on. They (the crew) had to all come together and earn it. It was perfect.

Pam, that interview was wonderful; thanks. How nice MTV News chose them! I had to laugh a number of times, but here's one:

MTV: So I am a born and bred Trekkie. I want to thank you on behalf of every "Trek" fan. You made "Star Trek" for the first time cooler than "Star Wars." Would you agree with that?
Abrams: You're asking a dangerous question, my friend. I don't know how you respond to that without sounding like a douche bag. Why don't you just put a bull's-eye on my head?

I liked this part of the interview as well:

MTV: Chris, it's an amazing year for you. Is there one moment that you can pinpoint that is the most gratifying or surreal?

Pine: Working with Leonard. I remember doing the whole ice-cave sequence. It really wasn't anything that happened in the scene so much as sitting down next to Leonard and passing the time and talking with him about his experiences. It was a real honor to work with him.

I haven't listened to the commentary yet, so I didn't hear about the nose first hand. But I do have my GQ! I need to get a chance to look at it.

Here are some pictures of Chris's mom from "Masters of The Universe" (1986), courtesy of poster enfanterrible. I can see where he resembles her. Chris's mom became a family therapist; she left acting, IIRC.

I used to think he looked something like his dad -- and he does; but it's clear he looks a lot more like his Mom -- and her mom, from the pictures I've seen of Anne Gwynne.

He even stands like his mom and holds himself like that. Look at her hands splayed in the last example; he employs exactly that mannerism.

His mom looks so familiar to me....i need to IMDB her to see what she was in.

QUESTION: a couple of days before the movie was available in stores i was in Best Buy. At one point all the tellys had what i thought was some of the behind the scenes stuff from the blu-ray. There was a segment with Chris, sitting on a couch, talking about doing the scene on Nero's drill.

I've been through what i think is all of the extra stuff on the blu-ray but i haven't been able to find this segment. Has anyone found it? Is this ON the blu-ray or was this something completely different that they were showing? It's driving me crazy!

Randi, I have looked at almost all the special features on the blu-ray and I do not remember that at all. I know there is a segment where that showed them changing up from filming with Chris and John hanging upside down to having them stand on a mirror looking up since the poor actors were getting so dizzy. I loved that segment. Definitely worth another look, though. Lol.

Pam, what's that from? I thought his space jump suit was blue. I approve of tight suits, though. I remember Rachel Nichols said Chris was so cute, doing pushups right before their takes. He's doing a one-legged pushup in the picture.

Jeri, it is from a scene in the Casting special features section on the dvd. John Cho is asked about Chris and says he is good at pushups.

Where did Rachel Nichols say this about Chris? I love it.

I'm still looking for that Nichols interview; but I found a clip at trekmovie.com where Chris says he has the man crush on Alec Baldwin. Someone said earlier it was on Karl Urban -- did he say both?

I wonder if it is the same interview. It was with Zach and Chris was being teased about saying he had a man crush on Karl. He said he wanted to keep it on the "down low." It is listed on the huge Chris and Zachary interview list posted a while back. He has a lot of them maybe. Karl makes the most sense to me. I have a crush on him, too. Hee hee.

Doesn't sound like the same one. I have done a search at trekmovie and can't find that interview with Rachel -- if it was even at trekmovie. I'm guessing that a person's biceps bunch up for a while after doing pushups, and that's why he was doing them.

He looks so young in the second one. I know he was probably about 18 but he looks 15. Not really such an ugly duckling has turned into a beautiful swan. It amazes me how he can go from the ultimate geek or nerdy look into a gorgeous young man like in Just My Luck. Hard to believe it was the same person. I laughed out loud in the beginning at the mishaps he had. Aw. But he found his lady love and all was right with the world. Cute movie.

Uncharted Film Gets Conan Writers to Scribe Drake’s Fortune

"A few months ago before the release of Uncharted 2 on PS3, there was a report that a film version of the popular game series would be made into a movie. Since then not much has been heard until now, our friends at Latino Review are reporting that original writer, Kyle Ward will not be writing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony citing Ward’s work on Hitman 2 preventing him from getting Sony a script sooner.

It is looking like the studio is going to hire Conan screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the screenplay. While this deal has yet to be finalized, Latino Review is certain that it will be announced in the trades sometime soon.

I have read some of the Conan script and its okay, I think these 2 guys can do fine with the Uncharted source material which will probably combine Indiana Jones and James Bond and that hip new style of parkour stunts, which I am down with. I also like the production team of Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner. I mean you have 2 guys that have been associated with some big budget comic films in Batman and Spiderman.

The story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is racheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.

I really like the idea of Chris Pine in this role."

Carriers (2009) review

I watch a lot of movies, listen to a lot of music, play video games, and draw occasionally. I'm usually attempting to sleep or working if I'm not doing one of those things.

The rundown: Carriers is worth watching for Chris Pine's performance, but is more about surviving a terrible disease than anything undead related and doesn't really offer anything you haven't seen in films like this before it.

Brian and Danny grew up as two brothers who were relatively close to one another. They cherish the memories they have of Turtle Beach, a beach their family vacationed to every summer. The abandoned motel in Turtle Beach may be their best bet of surviving the highly contagious disease that now plagues the entire country and possibly the world. Not much is known about the virus other than the victims coughing up blood and bleeding from the ears as their condition worsens. Brian actually came up with a few rules that will hopefully get him, his girlfriend Bobby, his brother Danny, and Danny's friend Kate through this disease ridden world to Turtle Beach clean. The rules include avoiding the infected at all costs, disinfecting anything they've touched in the past 24 hours, and that the infected are already dead as there is no cure. You may survive if you stick to the rules, but actually abiding by them is an entirely different story.

Right off the bat, people are probably going to compare Carriers to Zombieland because of the rules. Carriers was released a full month before Zombieland, but Paramount Vantage folded upon its initial release causing its wide release to be an extremely limited one at the last minute (I think it wound up playing at only two theaters in the country). Expectations rise unintentionally in situations such as this. "This is that horror film that was practically shelved earlier this year and is finally being released." The result is a horror film that is well worth watching, but may not be entirely what you're expecting.

Carriers is more about establishing an atmosphere than anything else. Everything is abandoned and rightfully so as most people were picked off handfuls at a time by this pandemic. The entire film is more like the first half hour of 28 Days Later where Jim wakes up in an abandoned hospital and realizes how empty the streets of London are. There aren't masses of the infected running around lusting for brains or wanting to tear humans apart in Carriers. The story follows these four friends as they journey across the country to this supposed sanctuary where they hope to tough it out until this disease runs its course. Carriers is more of a slow burn as things turn from bad to worse very slowly and snowball as the film goes on.

Chris Pine is really the drawing factor of the film. His role as Brian is kind of like a more intense version of his role as Kirk in Star Trek from earlier this year. Brian comes off as an inconsiderate prick the first half of the film and seems to only do things that benefit himself. The second half is where his character gets interesting though. The speech he gives Danny about their parents and telling Danny that he only told him what he wanted to hear is the turning point for Brian. Chris Pine shines as things begin to roll downhill for Brian as his emotions take center stage and his true demeanor is revealed.

Everything else in the film pretty much feels like routine manuevers when it comes to films revolving around viral outbreaks as some main characters contract the disease, they resort to drastic measures to survive, and begin to question their humanity along the way. The most disappointing part of the film is the ending as things just seem to kind of stop without much of a resolution. It seems like films like this either end this way or have a really depressing ending and that's its biggest flaw. Movie buffs who have seen films concerning pandemics already have a rough idea of how the film is going to end and it's about time to mix that up a bit. There's got to be a decent way to end the film that offers something a bit different that could wrap everything up until that point, but also leave enough room open for a sequel if need be.

Carriers may be a bit slow at first and doesn't really offer anything you probably haven't seen before in a film like this, but is still worth seeing for Chris Pine's performance. It's kind of a more serious take on Zombieland without actual zombies running or stumbling around with an atmosphere similar to the one established in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later. If you're a fan of films involving a virus that has wiped out most of the human population, then this is still worth a watch.

Unstoppable’ Stops Traffic

The Brooke Bruins football team isn't the only "unstoppable" force in Brooke County this week.

There's also a major motion picture being filmed in the area: "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington.

The action thriller directed by Tony Scott and also starring Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson, will continue filming today. The Market Street Bridge connecting Steubenville to W.Va. 2 just north of Follansbee is expected to be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The span will be shut down to accommodate the filming of various driving scenes. According to the West Virginia Film Office, a department of the West Virginia Division of Tourism, filming also is expected to take place from a helicopter.

Filming on the bridge was originally set for Monday, but Pam Haynes of the West Virginia Film Office said delays forced a "late night change" of plans, pushing the closure back to today. Haynes said she doesn't believe rainy weather had anything to do with the delay, which she said may have been caused by film crews still finishing up work in Mingo Junction.

Haynes said if further delays prevent filming today, producers likely would have to renegotiate with the West Virginia Division of Highways, as the location agreement covers only Monday and today.

Follansbee Mayor Tony Paesano said the town is "excited" about the filming. He said it proves the significance to the region of the century-old Market Street Bridge - the future of which was in doubt until $10 million in federal stimulus funding was directed to keeping the span operational for the next decade.

"It's a win-win situation," said Paesano. "It can't be beat."

Follansbee also is set to be the backdrop for another film, Fairmont native Robert Tinnell's "Feast of the Seven Fishes." Based on a graphic novel of the same name, the film focuses on the Italian Christmas Eve tradition of eating seafood to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, in a style that's been described as akin to the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

That film has been in the works for a few years, but Paesano said he's hopeful filming will begin in Follansbee sometime after Christmas. He said possible locations for filming include St. Anthony's Church and the church's gymnasium, as well as various homes throughout the town.

Paesano said Follansbee's rich Italian heritage makes it a perfect setting for the movie, which is set in the 1980s.

"Anything that will have a positive economic impact to this area, we're always very happy about that," said Paesano.

Traffic both north and south on W.Va. 2 will continue as normal today, with no lane reductions. Those wanting to cross the Ohio River by car will need to travel north to the Veterans Memorial Bridge connecting Weirton and Steubenville.
