Chris Nolan is prepping Batman 3 and will mentor a new Superman film

Re: Chris Nolan is prepping Batman 3 and will mentor a new Superman fi

^It was still basically Brainiac -- it's just that he collected data from various planets and stored it in orbs rather than collecting shrunken cities in jars.

Unlike the DCAU's Tim Drake, who's essentially Jason Todd.

I pretty much expected the Batman/Superman films would be treated as two seperate realities; which is why any rumours to the effect of Justice League films struck me as surprising. Anyway, given the tone he set in the Batman films it's altogether sensible, as the son of Krypton would be straining the much vaunted (if rather flexible) 'realism' of that franchise.

I just hope we get a classic Superman movie. It has to be epic or they might as well not even bother after this one.

I liked Batman Begins...TDK was hit and miss...either way this is better than what was going on in the 90's & up til SR went into production.

I seem to recall that in one of the rebooted versions of Brainiac it was created by Jor-El, so that would be a welcome addition.

Yep; that was in the Bruce Timm / Paul Dini "Superman: The Animated Series". In fact, Brainiac was shown as responsible for the extinction of the Kryptonian people. Brainiac knew the planet's death was coming, but it hid the information from its people. Why? Because Brainiac wanted to invest all of its processing power and resources into saving itself; if the people of Krypton knew their planet was about to die, they would have tied up Brainiac in trying to find a way to save the planet.

Superman: TAS matches up with much of what you're saying (including the young society of Krypton cut down in its prime); and I've always thought that Superman: TAS was the best interpretation of Superman yet to come down the pipe.

Agreed. The Timmverse of Superman in the cartoon was always quite appealing. Plus, they brought to life both old-school and new-school Supes villains in a compelling way. A new Superman movie should also borrow from the old Fleischer Studios cartoons, showing he didn't perform his feats without some strain and stress. Still, one of the most enjoyable sequences involving Superman and his power was from the JLU cartoon where he faces Darkseid and basically tells him "I'm so powerful I don't often have the chance to cut loose, but you can take it, big fella," and then he whomped him.

Seemed to me that all they did on the cartoon was take the Eradicator and give him the name "Brainiac". Really not much difference.
This can't be true, because Eradicator is the third-lamest part of The Return of Superman (my only experience with the character). Certainly nowhere near as cool as Brainiac.

Both are Kryptonian artificial intelligences created by an ancestor of Kal-El. Both use Kryptonain tech and weapons against Superman. Yet ironically are also a chief source for his knowledge of his dead home world. Sure their objectives are very different but origins are very similar.

That's the kind of action I'd like to see in the next movie: :techman:

Nolan has neither the imagination nor the asthetic to mentor Superman. His Batman movies seem like that he wanted to make a Michael Mann type crime thriller but was unfortunately saddled down with costumed avenger angle. He seemed downright embarrassed about Batman and was trying to do everything in his power to suppress what made Batman Batman. Let him make grownup arthouse movies for grownup arthouse fans and let someone else with a sense of adventure play in Superman's sandbox.
