Star Trek, Avatar, and Watchmen all are good possibilities, but I have deep reservations about each. Since this is a Trek board, and I'm trying to stay optimistic about the film, I went with that option.

That's easy---none. Watchmen has the most potential, but it's also the most easily abused because it's got problems. The rest? You wonder why they were made.

Simple: the possibility of making lots and lots of money. Which is why it's highly unlikely we'll ever get a film like 2001: A Space Odyssey again without a huge director behind it and a reasonable budget. High concept, shallow, action-based sci-fi is a proven moneymaker, and, until the numbers turn otherwise, we'll continue to be made for that reason.

But you already knew that.

To tell the truth ... none of them interests me all that much. Some because I know very little about the original inspiration (Wathcmen). Others, the lovelight has faded. (Trek). Still others were never much of any interest at all to begin with (Underworld, GI Joe).

I will still go see Trek, more out of going with friends who are more interested in it, but it just does not have the same panache for me it once did.

Another vote for Star Trek. I have low expectations but I am quite curious. I wouldn't mind waiting to see the terminator movie on Blu-Ray and Avatar will still be in theaters in 2010.

Star trek without a doubt. I'll likely see a bunch of them at the theater though. Haven't heard anything about Avatar though. Only movie on there I have no clue about.

Putting ST as a choice on a Trek board and saying you can only pick one leads to a pretty predictable winner. If I were to pick two, the second would be Avatar.
