Maybe you can hypothesize: Why would @USS Excelsior feel the need to specifically reference the ape-like nature of someone if they are talking about the ape-like features everyone possesses? Maybe because they are talking about something beyond the natural similarities of human beings to apes?

likely and possible. it is also possible, that @USS Excelsior posseses no such features itself for various reasons such as otherworldly heritage or the lack of a mortal body due to achieving a higher spiritual level. and while such things are very unlikely, I simply do not have enough data about @USS Excelsior to rule that out completely.

Cheesman's comments here pretty much put the kibosh on the idea that her character is "coming back" in any way this season. I mean, it would be one thing to play it close to her vest if she knew it was the fact. But she wouldn't speculate about being resurrected in the future if she actually was resurrected later in the season.

What on earth are you even talking about?

This is even more confusing. Whenever we see that character with the helmet (like here in ”If Memory Serves“), they look like a regular sized person, not ”tiny“. And even if they were tiny, why would that make them ”ape-like“?

Next episode will feature the smaller characters while Pike is interviewing for Airiam's replacement. The helmet character will be there, looking particularly ape-like, and at one point Linus takes off their helmet, wiggles their enormous ears and sprays water in their face. Pike: "The clown can stay, but the Ferengi in the gorilla suit has to go."

There are background characters on the Discovery that have worn the helmet though. I think I saw one last week working on something in the corridor.

We've seen that helmet on the Shenzhou, the De Milo (in The Escape Artist), and this season only, on the Discovery. It could be Narwani all three times, or more likely, just wearable tech by multiple officers.

Why not? If it's a plot point the writers and producers don't want to let out of the bag until after it airs:

Why would she 'spoil'/'tease' that in any way in interviews given prior to that aspect being revealed to the viewing?
