Charlie Jade

^^ I remember struggling with it for a while. I think they had a change of writing team about 7 or 8 episodes into the series. That's when it started picking up.

Hmm interesting. I was really impressed with the first episode, but then it just dragged horribly after that, and I gave up around episode 6.

I might push through and see if all the praise it receives is justified.

IMDB shows 21 episodes for the characters, but, it shows only 20 episodes in S1, and 1 episode unknown Season Can of Worms. It appears it aired July 28, in between Episode 16 (July 23) and 17 (July 30). The TV recordings I borrowed to burn to DVD doesn't seem to have this episode, is this accurate that it's 21 episodes including can of Worms, or is it just 20 episodes and someone put up erroneous info?

Does he have siblings?

Not that we know of, no. 01 and his father (Brion Boxer) were the only ones in the family we ever met. I don't remember what happened to 01's mother - I think she might have died in childbirth or something which is, sadly, probably very common in Alphaverse.

Ah, I checked Wikipedia, it seems that 21st episode Can of Worms was a recap episode

^ Yep. It was basically filmed after the fact. And, AFAIK, not even in the same location - the balance of the show was shot on location in South Africa, but for "Can of Worms" they got the relevant actors and flew them to Canada for last minute filming of that episode alone.

STAY OUT OF MY MIND!
01, the number. Do they ever explain why his name is a number? I'm up to ep. 17 and if they explained it earlier I missed it.

Because Brion Boxer is a really shitty dad. I think that about sums it up.

Watched the First 3 Episodes. Charlie is Lost and trying to figure out what is going on, and he starts waking up by Episode 2 end.

Rena, is so alone.

The characterization of the Lost and Loneliness so far, has been phenomenal. I can't believe people tune out because the first 3 - 5 episodes are so boring? The First 3 have me very hooked, Rena really has my sympathies (Even if she caused it all)

I get that Vex-Cor wants a Multi-Versial Conglomerate, but, the Water flow gave me the impression, Alphaverse was sucked dry of Water, and sucked Beta-Verse Dry, and now were attacking Gamma-Verse, and that's why Rena and her man acted. This never seems to be confirmed so far, but, only the "Multi-Versial Corporation and stabilizing an "everyday Portal"

Is that what I'm supposed to come away with? And the rest comes later, or did I miss some confirmations/explanations?

Alphaverse was sucked dry of Water, and sucked Beta-Verse Dry, and now were attacking Gamma-Verse, and that's why Rena and her man acted.

Vexcor hadn't done anything to Betaverse, except establish a branch there. They were probably going to bleed it dry of all the resources they could get, just like they'd already done to their home Alphaverse. Same goes for Gammaverse.

As for Reena and her cohort: They only acted because Vexcor was hankering for Gammaverse. If it didn't concern her home universe, she wouldn't have done anything - in fact, I doubt she even knew any other universes existed before the accident which landed her in Betaverse.

The plans of Vex-Cor regarding Betaverse and Gammaverse become crystal clear over the run of the show, Sindatur, I will say that.

Yes. And you have to watch the little "passing comments" that sometimes get made as they reveal nuances and depth to certain situations.

Heh, yea, I've definitely noticed it's not a Series you can watch passively, with only half your attention.

Yeah, it is a show that you really need to give your full attention. But if you do it is a hell of a ride.

So, I'm 5 episodes in now, and really enjoying it so far.

They don't hold back any punches in this series. The creepy guy that licked Jasmine's face, everything Rena has been through, 01 Boxer's decadence/deviance.

Things are starting to come together a bit, and a little easier to get a grip on what's going on. Still plenty of mystery to explore, but, enough understanding to theorize with.

And man, Charlie thought his life has been rough since his trip to Betaverse, but, Rena has been through complete HELL, it's getting difficult to continue seeing her go through it, even worse than what I remember watching Admiral Caine's Six she kept caged and tortured (That was bad, but, I don't think the bad being shown had quite so many traumatic scenes)

So, I've now watched up through ep 11, things are definitely becoming clearer now.

Wow, Rena really got put through the grinder, glad she's out of that now.

I think Rena's tortured arc, is the most prolonged graphic, and gritty character abuse I've ever seen. Sure Sheridan/Delenn in Comes The Inquisitor or Sheridan in Face of The Enemy or Picard/Locutus or his Cardassian Imprisonment, or O'Brien's torture, or even Admiral Cain's Six Model in NuBSG, the characters went through every bit as much "In Universe", but, it only lasted an episode or two, and not nearly as many scenes.

In fact, in alot of ways, I think Charlie Jade up to this point has been even Grittier, more realistic and creepier at times then NuBSG, but Charlie Jade, for some reason, doesn't feel like it's wallowing in it, and make you feel like slitting your wrists, nearly as much as NuBSG feels like. Charlie Jade doesn't really have much humor in it, so, I'm not sure why it can be more intense, but, not as depressing? Maybe it's because it doesn't shove "Hopelessness" at you so much?
