Charlie Brookers Screenwipe

if you are quite happy with the idea of a young girl crying in front of 10+ million people, that is your choice.

People cry live on TV for lots of reasons, I don't see why her crying because she fucked up is any worse than a woman crying on the news because her house just got blown up or something. Besides, she was just being manipulative to get another try after she cocked it all up.

I think loosing your house is a good reason to cry, I would rather TV news would not air those clips however, its not really reporting the facts.

They have young kids eligible for the competition, they run a much higher risk of a contestant breaking down in front of an overwhelming audience. Most people are mature enough to realise that these things happen and move on.

Shutting down an entire TV station because of such an incident would be, frankly, beyond retarded.

I had no idea it was returning so soon, but luckily xthemusic is still providing the vital service of uploading it to YouTube.

I felt it was an excellent episode which made me laugh my head off while making some very insightful points. Basically, it was standard stuff for Charlie. :techman:

I love the guy who was interviewed by the a news crew and refused to be depressed by the snow no matter how hard the news man tried.

It was a stroke of genius last night to have War of the world "The cylinder unscrewing" music over the minister who was trying to define terror threat levels, cracked me right up.

Missed last nights (will catch it on iPlayer), but I've been impressed with the last two shows. Except for the parts involving Tim Key. The guy is still rubbish.

Doug Stanhope is always welcome though. I hope he makes more appearances throughout the series.

D'oh! Missed that one, I like to see what SF music he'll have in the background. He used quite a few Space 1999 snippets IIRC.

I don't mind him still, I don't know where the hate comes from!

What was it he said to introduce himself in the 2nd show, "I'm Doug Stanhope, that's why I drink"

My kind of depressive, I liked the "It won't happen to you. Ever." put down of the news as it scaremongers.

I saw Stanhope live in Manchester a few years ago. I saw an advert for his show in the newspaper, so me and a few friends went to see him solely off the back of a 5 minute piece he did on an episode of Screenwipe. It is one of my favourite stand-up shows ever. The guy just basically rants about everything onstage for 90 minutes. He's sort of like a less optimistic Bill Hicks; using comedy to comment on the politics and social issues that we're all exposed to everyday, but without the hope for Humanity that Hicks had.
