Chapel Character Teaser

Gene wasn't thrilled with most of the TOS movies, he has also been dead for a majority of the franchise now, who cares what he would think.
That and most of what he wanted in Star Trek was rewritten or decided against before we saw the final product, mostly for the better.

If Gene had his way, Spock would have been the one to assassinate JFK.

Oh dear wokeness, wokness, wokness so apprently spoilers below, please dont read.

Chapel is bisexual in SNW, like really?
And so Kurtzman Trek continues:shrug:

I don't understand. So a character is bisexual. What's the issue? How is that "woke?"

I doubt Gene Rodenberry would have been thrilled.

Why do you think that?

Kurtzman does not seem to learn, if you want to go this route, create new characters.

I don't understand. Nothing in TOS says or implies that Chapel is straight rather than bisexual, so what's the problem?

I doubt Gene Rodenberry would have been thrilled.

You have no idea of what Roddenberry would have thought, and your assertions should be understood to be without the merit of understanding.

There is nothing the producers need "learn" from your opinions.

Go watch the end of TOS S1 - "What Are Little Girls Made Of".

I've seen it. She is heartbroken that the person she was going to marry is dead and has been replaced by a murderous duplicate without a conscience. I still don't understand what you mean when you said "she doesn't care for 'mechanical assistance.'"

Nevermind, the joke obviously fall flat.

Yeah, He would totally have been on board with this.
And of course we have Behr talking about what Roddenberry wanted to show in Captain's Holiday. And I don't remember which producer was talking about what he wanted to see background in 1st seasons Justice, makes me think that he wouldn't be bothered by this much at all, probably the reverse is true.

Gene might not be interested in seeing a show properly portray a bisexual. But I would bet my retirement that he would have loved the stereotypical male fantasy of a bisexual woman.

I don't think any of us are under any illusions that Roddenberry would want his mistress to make our with another woman for anything but the wrong reasons.

Oh and to add there are absolutely bisexuals out there that love providing a stereotypical treat to their spouse. As long as it's their desire, that's great for them. If its doing it because its the only socially acceptabley way to express themselves that's another story.

I think what’s really fun about this is trying to re-envision some stuff or deepen some stuff, or trying to find a richer perspective for characters who maybe didn’t always get that. Just doing it today with contemporary actors and trying to like zero in on them, makes the show feel different. Do you know what I mean? Like, I feel safe in saying our Chapel is not the Chapel of The Original Series, although she will become a version of the Chapel of The Original Series. We’re trying to do a character who would exist today...

...We wanted to give a hat tip to some of the things that she does in TOS, but try to find a different reason why, like a human reason. A reason that we would understand. No slight against anything that they did on The Original Series, but they had a very different conception of women and of marriage and what people would do in their jobs. And as a contemporary audience member myself, I don’t find that believable, and I had trouble with that.

So a lot of that just started with, ‘Well, what else could she be?’ Where did she come from? What’s an interesting story to tell with her? And a lot of it also comes from when we cast Jess [Bush] as Chapel. What are her strengths? How can we play to that?
