News Chadwick Boseman has died of colon cancer

I ended up not watching the movie or special last night, I was already getting tired before it even started, so I knew there was no way I was going to make it through.

We were going to make it a family movie night here but everyone was tired so my wife and I watched 42 instead. Despite knowing nothing about baseball, we both enjoyed it. He really was something special.

I just discovered last night that Chadwick Boseman was James Brown in Get on Up, which I already had in my HBO Max watchlist, so I might have to watch that, once I finish up my Alien series re/first time watch.

I checked amazon earlier and it’s only available to rent or buy but checked Netflix and it’s free there. Must give it a go this week.

Michael B. Jordan wrote a very touching tribute on Instagram. Here it is in full in case you can't view it (I don't think non-users are blocked from seeing it):

I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything.

I wish we had more time.

One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked , and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness.

I wish we had more time.

Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family , your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here.

I wish we had more time.

I'm more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. “Is this your king!?” Yes . he . is! Rest In Power Brother.

I'd say the problem is where to get the Heart Shaped Herb, but I'm sure they came up with a resolution for that before they burned it in the first movie. Though if it's as simple as "secret grove" I'll be disappointed.

A "synthetic derivative" of the Heart Shaped Herb was used in at least one relevant plotline in the comics, specifically the origin of the third White Tiger (in Christopher Priest's BP vol 3), Kevin "Kaspar" Cole, a former NYPD cop.

Originally, it was Killmonger that invented the serum, but that could easily be moved to either Shuri, or another MCU character (Helen Cho or maybe Bill Foster).

For MCU purposes: if anyone would be motivated to catalogue the genetic material of the Heart-Shaped Herb as a back-up plan, it would be Shuri.

I'd certainly agree that she would have kick-started the process of sequencing the DNa of the herb, as she has access to the only blood samples with traces in it AFAWK, however she's mostly "tech" rather than "bio" as depicted to date, so it's not unlikely that another expert might be required to complete the process.

If you take the non cinematic MCU into account, Luke Cage established that there are other herbs in Africa that bestow superpowers. Perhaps they're genetically related? Perhaps the heart shaped herb can be cloned.

Well it's all made up fiction, so it really doesn't take all that much imagination to figure half a dozen or so ways around it, if one were so inclined.

We all know what the options are moving forward because they're self-evident. We all may have opinions and preferences. None of that matters because it's up to the studios to make that call, and all we can do is sit and wait to find out which of the two or three viable options they pick. I could state which one I'd like to see in the long run, but even a week later it still seems gross and inappropriate to get into it. So I'll wait until the suits have made up their minds and it's academic anyway.

I was so sad when I heard he died of colon cancer and so young. I really hate that cancer! It runs in my family and I have lost 3 family members to it! I was really upset and couldn't believe it when a friend called and told me the news. I saw the Black Panther movie on my birthday when it first came out and was just blown away by it. He was so great and so was the movie. What a loss.... I would like to note: That because of my awful family history of colon cancer I had to start being tested for the nasty thing at age 30! Every 5 years...
