Indeed. It's not my place to second-guess Boseman's decisions regarding his privacy, but I hope Coogler doesn't feel slighted or that he misspent time in writing BP2 so far. As for T'Challa the character, I'm quite sure Boseman is irreplaceable. BP2 will have to introduce a new Wakandan monarch... or, just possibly, a democratically elected chief executive?Seems unlikely since Coogler mentioned in his tribute that he wasn't privy to Boseman's illness and he was writing his script on the assumption nothing was wrong.
Yeah, I'd prefer a new character, and there have been other Black Panthers in the comics, so they'd be sticking to canon if they went that way.
The sense I get from Coogler's tribute is that he understood and respected Boseman's privacy. I think he only grieves that he wrote those words now knowing that he'll never get to hear Boseman saying them and not that he "wasted" his time writing them.Indeed. I watched Civil War and Black Panther back-to-back on Disney+ yesterday. Besides, I don't have a television. So anybody else watching the movie tonight? I'm going to, I know it's on Disney+, but I want to support them showing it. I'm hoping to watch the special about Boseman too, but I might fall asleep before then.
It was also Jack Kirby's birthday. He played Jackie Robinson in 42...and he died, at age 42, on the (rescheduled) Jackie Robinson Day.
Issuing a blanket rule: If anyone is so tasteless as to ask about new actors to play T'Challa, you're eating a permanent ban.
It is rather low to even be concerned about a role in some franchise when the person behind that role has just died.
In the comics, Shuri becomes the Black Panther for a time. Not sure the current Shuri actress is right, physically, for the role, but it’s an option.
