News Chadwick Boseman has died of colon cancer

Truly shocking. I had no idea he even had cancer, and to see that he was diagnosed in 2016, damn. That means he was battling cancer while filming Black Panther as well as Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. Black Panther in particular though, an action movie where he was the lead character. To do that while dealing with cancer is nothing less than absolutely extraordinary. A true hero both on and off the screen.

RIP

I wholeheartedly agree. I saw the news today and am very saddened. :(

I'm not sure who the bald guy is by the Hulk?

This is hard to believe, it’s even a cancer that usually affects people over 50 AND has a good early detection rate.

That is true. One of my working colleagues who is in his 60s got it but luckily it was detected early. Now he has fully recovered. So far no relapse. Thank God.

Black Panther really meant a lot to a lot of people because they finally got a superhero who looked like them, even more so for little kids. I feel awful for them, it is just a movie but it represented so much more to so many and he embodied it so well. This is just so heartbreaking.

I couldn't believe the news when I saw it last night. I actually just watched 42 tonight in tribute to him. In my letterboxd review, here was what I saw about him:

First of all, RIP Chadwick Boseman. I couldn't believe the news when I saw it last night, on Jackie Robinson day of all days too. Wakanda Forever!!!!

With this film and Black Panther, we lost an actor who was coming up to be a star way too soon. In a way I'm reminded of Heath Ledger who I first saw in Knight's Tale, than Brokeback Mountain and then the unreal performance in The Dark Knight. We lost a great actor and a great man way too soon.

I noticed some ad for a colon cancer test during the news featuring some young black guy, someone must’ve been chuffed to have that in the can. As someone with a few years on him I can only say he was way too young. If nothing else, he had a role that came at the right time to mean a lot to many people. I saw pictures and videos of celebs and sports guys doing the "Wakanda Forever" thing in tribute and the fact that is so commonly known and understood shows the impact it's had.

Loved him as Black Panther. He really gave the role the cool bad-assery it deserved.

I don't watch a lot of movies outside sci-fi and comedy, so had never seen 42, but it was highly recommended in MLB chat, so I ordered up the blu-ray. Looking forward to watching that next weekend.

I think T'Challa's character should be properly honored in the next Black Panther film as dying of disease and passing on the mantle to Shuri or some other appropriate family member who will carry on the "Black Panther" name.

There's no reason to recast T'Challa, his character was beloved by the fans, the actor: Chadwick Boseman is beloved as well.

I think Disney/Marvel should acknowledge it and move on.

For the rest of my days, T'Challa's live action visage will always be Chadwick Boseman in my mind. I wouldn't want it to change, that would be dishonoring Chadwicks hard work on screen.

It wouldn't surprise me if knowing both his potentially limited time and importance to young fans (and as a director himself), he had arranged to film a transition. That will be so moving when we get to see it :weep:

Seems unlikely since Coogler mentioned in his tribute that he wasn't privy to Boseman's illness and he was writing his script on the assumption nothing was wrong.
