Being a newbie, I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed but I think a good CGI movie (think Final Fantasy-the Spirits Within) could be made about the period between STTMP and STTWOK, maybe a series of straight to dvd movies using the likenesses of the cast.....
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CGI MOVIES SUCK
they look awful and fake.even tas animation is better then cgi
Yeah,
Up,
The Incredibles,
Cars,
Finding Nemo,
Toy Story and
Wall-E were
godawful pieces of crap! I can't believe anyone ever thought those were live-action movies - I mean, talking toys and fish and cars all look
totally different from that in real life ...
What movies have you seen, anyway? Are you basing your "critique" on something like
The Last Starfighter, which was cutting-edge at the time but now loses in comparison to the work Pixar and Dreamworks (although it's still pretty impressive!), along with a slew of other studios, have accomplished? Are you aware that
most of the live-action movies you see are now significantly CGI?
The biggest barrier to
Trek in CGI (btw, the new Abrams movie is probably more CGI than it is live-action; any scene where the cast are not up close is probably digital) is the same barrier that any CGI film with human beings encounters: creating a believable human being is exponentially more difficult than any other creature, machine or scene, because we are so unconsciously attuned to the little tics and subtleties that comprise human appearance and behavior.
That being said, I find it laughable that anyone would seriously think the animation in TAS is "better than CGI" - it's not even up to par with a lot of the conventional animation out there. TAS's strength was its stories, many of which
are on par with the live-action series, despite being only 1/2 hour in length and tailored for a younger market.
If your sole approach is "CGI sucks," you're missing out on a lot of excellent movies.
