Celtic Frost. Better in later years?

I'm glad they got somewhat back on track with Monotheist.

Dunno if I prefer To Mega Therion or Into the Pandemonium though, both are excellent and influential albums.

Yes I heard they got back to old sound & style somewhat. Tom has an attitude about each album being different, horns on Pandemonium? was it?

He said in a recent interview; this album we made for ourselves. Trouble with that is if you play a certain style of music, your fans, ( the people who BUY your records), do expect certain things. If Tom doesn't care what his fans want, he's got a self attuned view, & not what rock is really about. It's a team sport. The audience IS important.

Having said that, they were a big influence on the myriad of bands that followed in their wake. They themselves were influenced by Venom, but were strong where Venom was weak, namely guitar tone & sound quality.

Wow, Celtic Frost. There's a band I haven't listened to in 20 years. :techman:

Just for kicks I went to wikipedia and find out that they basically spawned a whole new genre of music (Black Metal)? I guess this is what happens when you ignore the metal scene for 20 years.

Venom influenced black metal with their satanic image and sound quality, but Mercyful Fate was just as influential. Bathory definitely. A huge influence! Celtic Frost and Possessed and also had a big impact on the Norwegian scene.

voggmo, when Tom expressed his admiration for Limp Bizkit a couple of years ago, I was certain they [Celtic Frost] would never make a good album again, but boy was I wrong!

Thanks for that. Which new Frost cd is the one to get?

Mercyful fate was one of my favorites. Melissa & Don't Brake the Oath are best, 9 is pretty good.
