CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

In the interest of keeping things going then, one thing in particular leapt out at me from this:

Michael Bay? Really? Don’t get wrong wrong, I don’t mind a good Michael Bay explosion-fest, but it doesn’t really jive with Alec’s subsequent comment about Tarantino bringing story and character and not special effects to the table. It *does* however track pretty well with what we saw in the leaked Axanar script.

So... so Tarantino is going to make the Axanar movie. It all makes sense now. :-)

Ugh, the last thing Trek need is Micheal Bay, this franchise is supposed to be smart sci-fi.
I actually thought the Abrams movies were relatively intelligent for big summer blockbusters. Obviously they're nowhere close to the best of the series, but compared to things like The Transformers movies, they're pretty smart.

On AxaMonitor: Remember when Alec Peters derided other filmmakers' awards from film festivals that "didn't count"? Guess what AxaMonitor learned from its analysis of Prelude to Axanar's much-vaunted (and miscounted) 47 awards: 42 percent of the festivals were questionable, calling into question just how "meaningful" (Peters' word) 35 percent of Prelude's awards might be. “It just sucks filmmaker money up in exchange for awards that don’t really mean much.”

Of course, in the case of Axanar it was donors’ money intended for the feature film that was flying out the door so that AP could claim 47...errr...46...uh...45 “awards” (that is, when AP wasn’t spending donor money to sponsor awards they themselves weren’t even eligible for just so they could slap their name on the front of plaques given to other fan filmmakers).

Buying Credibility? The year after winning six awards at the Independent Star Trek Fan Film Awards, Axanar purchased the right to have its name appear as sponsor on every plaque won by another film.

I'd even go so far as putting them above most TNG films.

I remember when Alec spoke about this my immediate wonder was where the money had come from for this. This was definitely one of the moments where I realised he was more interested in being seen as a big shot than just making the movie.

At this point making a movie is counter-produdctive to him. It won't be as good as prelude and it's 500 awards so it is better for him to milk that then to try to make another movie or film that won't be as good because he doesn't know what he's doing. Better to try to be the huge prelude big-shot now.

I thought the money was gone and he needed another $200k to finish the two 15 minute features. If there is money for sponsoring an award that should go toward making a movie or fulfilling perks.
That sponsorship was just for 2016, when he still had donor money to spend. I don't believe they paid for plaques going forward.

Where did all the donor money go....long time passing
Where did all the donor money go... so long ago
when will they ever learn?

P.S. On a sad note, the guy in the video and the landlord of the property passed away a few weeks ago.
