Anybody have an idea as to what caused CBS/P to pull the trigger on Horizon- was it due to the fundraising target level?
Of all fan productions I would have thought they would have been safe- no physical sets and a very simple production set up.
Probably to shut Axanar's everyone else is doing it why pick on us spew.

Oh

Neil

Pay no attention to the TOS Whom Gods Destroy, screen worn costume I'm wearing it's not important to my statement.

You know, talk of Peters 'moving on' is what is getting me worried. Even if he loses BIG, what's to stop him filing again for bankruptcy and creating some other company (in whatever field of business) in the future? You hear about that happening all the time.

EDIT: Like what Billj said!

His name is buried so deep in the mud already and will be forever linked to this mess. If he does try and 'reinvent' himself or 'move on', it wouldn't be hard for a prospective donor/client/whoever to get on the net and discover what kind of person he is (it will at least be a great deal easier than it was before all this got going...............).

Conversely, it wouldn't be too much trouble at all to drop a link somewhere and inform the general populace either.

The fundraising level.
The fundraising period.
I'll be honest - the polish on Horizon didn't make it a "threat", but it was good enough to confuse a layman.
Kraft's ties to Axanar.

Me thinks they're about to get ready to name some Does and those Does can't be named in one suit while also doing their own thing and infringing on the IP - even if it would otherwise be allowable.

Now that it's increasingly appearing that Alec's misadventures have poisoned the fanfilm pool, I very much want to see him become a persona non grata. Not just in the fanfilm community, but in the Star Trek fandom. This man, and his greed, are starting to ruin things for more people, outside of the hapless folks that got suckered in the early stages of Axanar. I don't want to see this dimestore Samuel Bronston hurt anyone else.

Amen. Dis-commendation is the best punishment for that shameless huckster. I heard the Nyberrite Alliance is hiring.

Hope, then, that he pushes forward into discovery, and then makes a motion for summary judgment. In response, the studios will have a chance to respond using info from discovery, which otherwise I believe can't be made public until a trial (absent a few obscure cross motions which could come up in between as well).

It seems likely there will be very big pressure on Alec to give in before discovery. Discovery would memorialize data that also might be relevant to the prosecution of Does, and to a donor lawsuit if cited by the plaintiffs in any filings. Not to mention making it that much harder for him to convincingly enter any other fan circle.

If they go ahead into discovery, it will probably set a new bar for the expression crash and burn. Even compared to the multiple imbecilic crashes of starships into major cities foisted upon fans recently.

Discovery - both the space shuttle and the specific phase of a civil suit - cost more than Alec can afford.

Well I certainly think he would have a major donor rebellion on his hands if he tried to use their money for the discovery phase. It could be the trigger for a lawsuit. Maybe he can tap his deep pocket supporters, assuming they exist.

And who knows, discoverable materials at Axanar might be getting less and less burdensome by the day.

Something's coming down the pipe.............this guy wasn't directly tied to Alec, let alone the movie, but it sure smells like anyone and everyone even remotely connected to him at one time or another is starting to run for cover....... (if it was something else, I'm sure many more authors/bloggers/designers etc would be slinking back into the shadows)

Like roaches when you turn on the light.

It begs the question as to why it was taking anyone this long to cut all potential ties & liabilities to Axanar?
