The Commander. An alternate juror. Ostensibly not for the uniform but because she talked to a tabloid to explain her choice of dress, however, the judge had mandated no talking to the media. Which may have given him the edge he needed to remove someone he might have considered distracting to the legal matter he was charged with. It would be a good point I think. Though I do think I remember he may have also expressed his actual disapproval 'of' the fictional universe uniform. Rather looking at it as a costume probably instead of a sincere expression of someone going to such a-typical measures to, display?, her belief system. Which would be logical since most ST uniforms seen are indeed costumes.

I would think the counsel on both sides would object simply because it would cause their clients to doubt the jury would give serious consideration to the claims.

I saw the clip of the news blurb they did on her, and the interview she gave.

How could a judge/jury NOT take the word of a Starfleet Officer???

She claimed she was just showing up "in work clothes, like anyone else" because she was the head of some Starfleet group. The claim didn't hold water - as you wouldn't see a car mechanic, coal mine worker, plumber show up in their work clothes for jury duty.

As I recall she was a dentist and wore the uniform as part of the dental practice because it cheered up skittish patients.

I think you're mixing two people. In "Trekkies," the dentists were a family practice in Orlando. The woman from the jury was actually an alternate to the so-called "Whitewater" trial (http://www.cnn.com/US/fringe/9603/03-14/trek.html)

Her name is Barbara Adams, and her occupation at the time in 1996 was "bookbindery employee" in Arkansas.

Cool. I lived in city with a dental practice that is all StarTrek themed with some of the workers wearing ST costumes too.

What really killed me about The Commander was how absolutely humorless she was. You'd expect someone who wears a Halloween costume to jury duty, complete with a little toy phaser and tricorder, to be a little more laid back.

But, we did get to see lots of PJs, chest hair, various under bellies of netherbits, and Data as both a Lover and a Pipe Smoker!

Bet Spielberg saw Data in "Fully Functional", and modeled his "Joe" gigolo character in A.I. after Data "The Jewel" Noonian Soong!

Hey, just noticed something:

1MubQOp

1Q6Y27e

He's a DreamWorks character!

For me it was the fact that she showed up with the Phaser and Tricorder which really showed her to have gone too far... That equipment is not required for a Starfleet Officer to perform Jury Duty :p
