And I am not sure if I would blast Gerrold because he wanted to break some silly convention rule. I mean, I can understand not bugging people with the PA system. But other than that, rules at conventions are made to be broken. :D

It wasn't him wanting to break a rule, it was his arrogant attitude about getting denied. It's like if a cop pulls you over for speeding and you act like a douche, you may wind up getting a ticket instead of just a warning. Sometimes acting like a douche is worse than a minor infraction.

Exactly. I doubt he was upset that Gerrold asked. It was the fact that he went on a "do you know who I am???" rant.

I don't have a problem giving benefit of the doubt to the anecdote, because I've seen other minor celebrities try the same tactic. "Don't you know who I am?" is a pathetic attempt to gain privilege on name recognition. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I hope I'd hold myself to a higher standard, if I were in a position to try that kind of stunt. Not that it has a possibility of ever happening ...

Whoever he was trying to connect with, he must have thought it was worth a shot.

Ummm ... why would he be stalking a girl? You do know David Gerrold is gay, right?
Nope - didn't then (in 1993) and didn't know until you mentioned it (and personally could care less either way.)

That said, he clearly said to me it was a girl he was 'meeting for lunch.' at the info booth - I remember the whole encounter to this day because I found it interesting when he dropped the whole 'do you know who I am?' bit and was really adamant about using the PA system; and how flustered he looked when he stomped off.

He then says, "Do you realize I'm a professional guest of the Convention? I'm David Gerrold [and.he directed me to look at his Badge, and it was as he indicated]; and I wrote one of the most beloved episodes of Star Trek. Do you realize who I am now?"

Yeeesh... celebrities.

I wondered that, too, about the anecdote. A lunch date doesn't have to mean romantic interest, though.
Or the OP assumed it was a female.....if it's a true and valid recollection Gerrold could have just said "I had a lunch date, and they didn't show, so indeed you to page them."

Or it's bollocks. Just trying to make it plausible.

I honestly recall Mr. Gerrold saying he was meeting a girl; but you're right in that he could have said 'someone' and I internally assumed 'female' because again, what really stuck out was the 'do you know who I am' - and how he wouldn't take a polite 'no, it's for emergencies' and demanded to speak to the person in charge, etc; and was quite upset after she refused as well.

If people want to believe I'm making it up; that's their call, but as I related it in my post earlier is how I remember it today in 2016.

I wasn't aware of Gerrold's sexuality until after The Martian Child came out. (And it always amused me that, in the movie adaptation, they made the Gerrold character straight.) And, like you, I don't care either way. :)

Very true. But this particular story seems to strongly imply that Gerrold was in heat, and wanted to break some convention rule to satisfy it, lol! :D

Must've been that magic 7th year for him.........:D

It could just as easily been something that important in a business / professional sense, relating to a career move she could open up for him. He seems the type.

True enough. Also, let's not ignore that she didn't show up. I could easily see him chatting up some publisher, who agreed to a lunch she wasn't planning to attend just to get him off her back.

We can blast him for being a douchecanoe about his importance.

There are about as many similar stories about him as there are...stories about him.

Can we start calling this case "The Four Months War" and film a documentary with TrekBBS users discussing their interest in the lawsuit?

Only if I get $38,000 a year!

Oh wait....double that. I'll need to kick back some to Christian and Antony will surely want a cut.

Get that Kickstarter started, PRONTO!

Hinman:
How is Christian doing?

He's doing fine. I actually met him a few years back, when I was abroad. Nice guy.

I read the March(ing) Orders update posted by Diana Kingsbury at Axanar's home page. Apparently Axanar is supposedly about to ship out all the patches they owe donors from 2014/2015 but here's the catch:

"Please note that the patches are the only thing which will be shipping out, as nothing else has been made, yet (and technically, most of the other rewards can’t be created until the movie has been completed!)"

No movie = no perk packages. No apology for all the bad judgement and drama on Alec & Co.'s part, here's your .29¢ patch.

You know, I think thats a re-issue of an old statement. Not just saying that, but I recall the exact same wording
