CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Still want a Four Years War film.

I could do without it. For one thing, there's already a space movie franchise about wars, and it's not Star Trek. For another, covering a whole war in one movie is a bit much. For another, it's just something out of an old role playing game manual. I don't remember there ever being any reference to a Four Years War with the Klingons anywhere in canon Trek. If anything, "Errand of Mercy" suggests that there never was a full-on war:

KIRK: We have legitimate grievances against the Klingons. They've invaded our territory, killed our citizens. They're openly aggressive. They've boasted that they'll take over half the galaxy.
KOR: Why not? We're the stronger! You've tried to hem us in, cut off vital supplies, strangle our trade! You've been asking for war!
KIRK: You're the ones who issued the ultimatum to withdraw from the disputed areas!
KOR: They are not disputed! They're clearly ours. And now you step in with some kind of trick.

You'd think Kirk or Kor might mention that they had a long, drawn out war during this conversation.

Yep, the Four Years War was an invention of FASA and possibly John M Ford for their FASA Klingon sourcebooks and Star Trek novel "The Final Reflection". There's no references to it in canon, and "Errand of Mercy" (as well as the last movie, although that's another timeline) it's pretty clear there was no prior war with the Klingons.

I read the March(ing) Orders update posted by Diana Kingsbury at Axanar's home page. Apparently Axanar is supposedly about to ship out all the patches they owe donors from 2014/2015 but here's the catch:

"Please note that the patches are the only thing which will be shipping out, as nothing else has been made, yet (and technically, most of the other rewards can’t be created until the movie has been completed!)"

No movie = no perk packages. No apology for all the bad judgement and drama on Alec & Co.'s part, here's your .29¢ patch.
They cost 0.37¢ ;)

Even non profits have to pay sales tax when they are based in California and sell to California residents. Kickstarter and Indiegogo merch perks aren't considered "sales" and not subject to sales tax, but direct sales of merch via the Donor Store most certainly are sales, and sales taxes must be remitted to taxing authorities in a timely fashion according to sales volume.

There was no "Sales Tax" line item expense listed in Axanar's "Annual Report". And Axanar's not yet a non profit, so there's that.

Hmmm...seems like a situation that calls for Erklarungsnot?!

Perhaps?

This idiot should have known, they (i.e. The "Management") read and listen carefully (when it fits their needs). Their whole agenda changed afterwards - with all the collateral damage... (i.e. The Donors).

At least I haven't found an earlier entry (from either side) that called for the expression "Independent Film production". It's moot, of course, since they claim now, it's always been just "a fan film". :guffaw:

More evidence that Peters' vaunted accounting skills and the "professionalism" of his Annual Report are just, as Joe Biden might say, "a bunch of malarkey."

AP has been busy with another merchandising tie-in so perhaps the FASA Star Trek Four Years War role playing game featuring the USS Ares will do. Click here for the link to see the cover art.

Alec Peters is giving more ammo to Loeb & Loeb to bury him deeper into the greedy pit he's dug for himself. Nothing says altruistic non-profit organization like using IP you don't own to line your pockets. Andorian Ice Coffee anyone?

I prefer the "Ramirez" myself. Note that particular capture was over three months after Tony Todd had left the production.

Maybe I'm just not surprised by the stupidity of Alec Peters anymore... I can't believe with everything going on, he's still showing off Diana and the fact that they're shipping out unauthorized merchandise while the lawsuit is in progress. I know that especially wasn't spelled out directly in the lawsuit, but you don't need to be Albert fucking Einstein to realize "direct financial benefit" can easily be linked to this. Any sane person would shut that shit down ASAP until the lawsuit was done, right?

The news is spreading more and more...

Interesting to see this video from DailyByte, but I wish they had commented about the other fan groups as well. But interesting, nevertheless.

Tell me this they aren't being serious about this! As a piece of art updating a cover of a thirty year old RPG supplement cover, cool. As a serious merchandising idea, pipe dream! (And this is from a ST FASA fan! I still love the FASA background, which was why I was looking forward originally to Axanar)

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was just fan art that popped up on the Fan Group recently.
Did someone say "fan art"?
