CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Before I get strung up for blocking the hate train -Is it ok to release a script early from an unfinished film? I donated to Axanar so on here Im a jonestown drinker apparently
I'm not speaking about legality -just decency so I could watch this movie (yes if it ever gets made) without it being spoiled?

Is it 'ok'? Personally, and in a perfect world, I wouldn't do it myself. But as soon as I saw the suggestion of it, it dawned on me how thoroughly inevitable it is. Copies are apparently circulating to talent agencies at the very least.

I am glad you are here, looking at the concerns people raise, and potentially offering your thoughts. I'm sorry I don't see any way you are not going to be spoiled by someone at some point given the lawsuit defense focus on the state of a script. But it probably won't be filmed. So you might want to take that into the balance in judging at what point you would like to read details.

I think one needs to look at why it is inevitable at this point. Is it a 'hate train'? Is it more of a 'hate the abysmal anti-Trek greedy crappiness that has been discovered in the business plans of this fan film' train? If not for that, would releasing the script be an issue by now? Or would the film actually be out?

Given that it's apparently an early draft I can't imagine what motive RMB would have to leak it.

The possible sources of the leak are probably endless.

When you put something that you want to keep secret into in electronic form and share it, and then you alienate as many former friends and associates as Peters has, at some point that document will get released into the wild. If those folks were half as savvy about the web and social media as they like to imagine they are, they'd have anticipated this kind of thing and worked up some counter-strategy beyond "We'll sue the Evul ones!"

If it's real early maybe someone is trying to get Axanar to release the most current one to prove it's not as bad as what was leaked?

That's a reach. It's far more likely that someone unfriendly to Peters leaked a years-old draft of the script than that it's somehow an attempt by a friendly person or participant to protect the Axanar project.

But everyone loves Raymond I mean Alec

It would seem a more sensible approach by AP given the situation of the lawsuit to express pride in the work and hope that people will see its quality, rather than just throwing around empty lawsuit threats. The chances his pro bono firm would be defending the script as the IP of Axanar Productions in the current climate seems kinda small.

In trying to narrow the suspect field, going for people he's friendly with rather and people he's pissed off is my only option. ;)

Why would someone promoting the project release a script that was deemed so inadequate by the participants that it's undergone a page-one rewrite by two other people (a rewrite which itself has been frequently referred to by the Axanar participants as evidence of their hard work and commitment to quality)?

I don't know. When I had the idea I didn't yet know it was an EARLY draft, to be honest.
