That damn Alec.............paranoid much? Way to treat a supporter too.

"I see that you are not a donor."

That kind of gave me douchebumps.

Douchebumps ... :guffaw::techman:

Do you suppose we'll get any Twitter pics this weekend of the Band Of Brothers out celebrating their status as celebrity defendants?

That kind of gave me douchebumps.

Thank you for that wonderful addition to my lexicon, sir! I use it with great care! :guffaw:

EDIT: I also did a search on PacerMonitor for Federal matters. There are 5724 results on a search of "Alec Peters." I'm not digging through all of those.

Try "Alec Peters, Jr." -- I seem to recall that's what was in the securities filing that was posted earlier.

I'd actually argue that STC has been big-budget (from a fan film perspective) since day one. New Voyages built their way up to their current size and budget level, but STC started with a high bar and just kept running with it.

However, I do think they're the one exception to date, and they're definitely producing a quality product.

If I had to guess who was going to be next on the lawsuit merry-go-round, it'll be STC. I think Renegades is dead in the water, I don't think they're going to be around much longer--I go be wrong, and it's no offense to anyone on Renegades, I just don't see it. Star Trek Continues is getting a little to big, to popular, and I think they're going to run into the same mower-blade as Axanar.

Oh, that's news to me ;) We are moving forward with filming our last episode of Renegades, The Requiem. If CBS issues us a C&D we will, of course, stop and that will be it for it for STR. We have over 3000 fans that have donated to the Kickstarter, we cant just sit around wondering about the Axanar lawsuit and if we are next. Need to move on and get this episode done.

We have seen no direct evidence that suggest we (or STC and STNV ) will get shut down. Para/CBS has a case with Axanar, we cant live in fear over it, we just need to make sure everything is done the right way.

"CBS and Paramount are are like your parents. You want to do your own thing, but if you don't respect them, they will take the keys to the car away from you. "
I'm not trying to take a dig at Renegades--even though, I didn't like it, aside from the ship design and seeing Walter back in uniform. For me, outside watching this all play out, it feels like it's losing steam, and then the chilling effect from the Axanar nuclear winter, I just think Renegades is going to be the first domino to fall without CBS having to C&D the production.

I wish you all the best of luck, I honestly do. And I would Axanar too, how the heads of the production not shown that the only thing faster than the speed of light is how fast they can behave like whiny douches when told no.

I suppose it is some kind of progress that the Indiegogo page finally acknowledges the lawsuit - but then you actually read the part where it says: "PLEASE NOTE: As of 1/30/15 Axanar Productions has been served with a lawsuit by CBS for copyright infringement."

So, they were served by the lawsuit nearly a year ago?

Of course, even if it is just a mistake, it doesn't exactly fill one with confidence that they would be able to manage money properly, if they struggle with the simple stuff... like getting the date right...

According to a comment on this Axanar blog, we may have this all wrong. ;)

The thing is: CBS/Paramount may own the rights to profit from Trek, but they do not own Trek. Since NBC cancelled the show, Trek has been kept alive by fans, not the studios.

Dunno, I kinda like the statement above that one in the same comment:

What I do know is that if Axanar is quashed, CBS/Paramount may as well sell the franchise, because they will never earn another penny from me.

Because, y'know, his pennies are the most important pennies! Without his pennies, you're sunk!

Huzzah! I think by this logic my sister in law owns Farscape.

I'm gonna ask her for a loan.

What I find both funny and sad about this is that these guys are about to learn how much their "ownership" of Axanar is worth.

I would have expected this notice to be coming from IndieGoGo, but as written, it looks like it's actually from Axanar Productions. Very odd that IGG hasn't intervened.

"PLEASE NOTE: As of 1/30/15 Axanar Productions has been served with a lawsuit by CBS for copyright infringement. We take this issue seriously and will be posting updated on our website www.axanarproductions.com."

Why would Indiegogo be donating to Axanar?

I hope, for their sake, that it's some unaffiliated user who happens to have that username...

I would think actually donating to Axanar, for whom they are collecting money to assist with the infringement of Paramount/CBS IP, would set them directly in the lawyers' sights...

I can just hear the deal, though. "Nah, it'll be fine, Alec. Here, we'll even contribute to your legal fund! Just keep paying our fees..."

Wow! I can see they totally care for the welfare of the donors!

Remind me never to run a campaign there, just on general principle.

Warning: tangent alert!

There's a reason McDonalds has "WARNING: COFFEE IS HOT" or some such on their coffee cups. They got sued because coffee was hot -- something fairly obvious to most of us -- and that was the court-mandated result.

They got sued because they had been cited several times for serving coffee at a temperature much higher than the maximum safe temperature, they kept ignoring all the incidents and injuries, and a woman needed skin graft surgery on her genitals as a result. She asked just for enough money to cover the cost of surgery and McDonalds blew her off.

Everybody knows the McDonalds case was a stupid lawsuit that should never have gone anywhere because duh, coffee is hot. Everybody is wrong. Funny how that widespread misconception works to the benefit of the big corporation instead of the old lady who burned her crotch off.

See the Journal of Commercial and Consumer Law from the Texas State Bar for the facts: http://www.jtexconsumerlaw.com/V11N1/Coffee.pdf.
