But wasn't he going to do himself...?

Who are his lawyers then?
He has alleged a firm is willing to help him pro bono.

Just in case you are all tired of reading and want something to listen too, here’s a short video podcast by MundaneMatt.

I know you mean well, but MundaneMatt is the worst possible person to cover, well, anything. I've watched him butcher summaries written in plain English.

For something that's actually helpful might I offer this instead? Maurice and others can chime in to its accuracy.

If Axaner was an official big budget Trek "Anthology" movie who would you cast?

Garth - Tom Cruise
Kharn - Russell Crowe
Travis - Michael Biehn
Sonya - Sharon Stone
Sovol - Gary Graham
Ramirez- Tony Todd

Director Bryan Singer

From WikiUniveristy...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_law_of_the_United_States#Fair_Use

Fair use is the use of limited amounts of copyrighted material in such a way as to not be an infringement. It is codified at 17 U.S.C. § 107, and states that "the fair use of a copyrighted work ... is not an infringement of copyright." The section lists four factors that must be assessed to determine whether a particular use is fair.

Purpose and character of the use, including whether the use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes: Nonprofit educational and noncommercial uses are more likely to be fair use. This does not mean that all nonprofit education and noncommercial uses are fair use or that all commercial uses are not fair. Instead, courts will balance the purpose and character of the use against the other factors below. Additionally, “transformative” uses are more likely to be considered fair. Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.
Nature of the copyrighted work: Using a more creative or imaginative work (such as a novel, movie, or song) is less likely to support fair use than using a factual work (such as a technical article or news item). In addition, use of an unpublished work is less likely to be considered fair.
Amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole: Courts look at both the quantity and quality of the copyrighted material that was used. Using a large portion of the copyrighted work is less likely to be fair use. However, courts have occasionally found use of an entire work to be fair use, and in other contexts, using even a small amount of a copyrighted work was determined not to be fair use because the selection was an important part—or the “heart”—of the work.
Effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work: Here, courts review whether, and to what extent, the unlicensed use harms the existing or future market for the copyright owner’s original work. In assessing this factor, courts consider whether the use is hurting the current market for the original work (for example, by displacing sales of the original) and/or whether the use could cause substantial harm if it were to become widespread.

Anyone here wanna speculate how someone could argue Axanar as being "Transformative"?

I am not familiar with his work beyond this video. Naturally I do not agree with his conclusion.

Should have seen this coming when Michael Hogan had to pull out, and Christian Gossett departed.

What happened to Gossett, anyway?

I can only remember Denny being forced to take one pro bono case. He shot out his clients knee caps to get out of it.

By this stage, that happening would just be the latest cherry on top of the Axanar Fuck-Up Cake.

Everything I've read is basically it was some "creative differences" between Peters and Gossett. They weren't friends on facebook after all of it went down and I recall reading a few vague back and forths between them.

Nobody probably really knows except for the two of them.

I'm not on Facebook, but for those who are and haven't been banned from the Axanar page, here are some stats you might want to point out to the people who think a boycott will be effective:

Star Trek Beyond trailer: 12,979,118 views after a month
Prelude to Axanar: 1,767,868 views after a year

I think it's quite clear which one people are more interested in. Even the STID gag reel has more views than Prelude.

Peters seems like a.. someone insert a colorful metaphor or several here.

Sorry to derail, but what's the deal with Propworx and MGM? Someone mentioned some controversy between the two a while back, in this thread.

reading about this more in one of my ST groups on FB and it is unbelievable how people are defending them and the outrage omg the outrage they feel I did chime in and did a hash tag I saw one of you do too
Sorry but I think they crossed a line and actions have consequences #LawstandswithCBS
did have some girl fight with me and defend them then she fought with someone else after I stopped my name is Erika Weir
here is a link to it

Delusion never ends:

Well maybe if CBS actually bothered to make Star Trek TV series instead of inane reality shows then this may not have happened, or the very talented people behind Axanar would have been able to create this with much higher budgets.

These people have somehow been convinced that Axanar is The One True Trek to the point where they are unaware that anything else exists.

why is it too much to ask to see a good sci-fi film that is about more than rayguns and explosions? That is why I liked the Axanar project. I want to see a good story.

So a war movie is about more than rayguns and explosions but Beyond, which we've been told is more about exploration, does not?
