I was once the most powerful crowdfund raiser in all of Starfleet...
Actually that one's New Voyages! :Puh? the Axanar guy is in STC also?

...is the closest Alec Peters will ever get to being Garth.
As far as copyright goes, the way I always understood it: Roddenberry never "owned" Star Trek, Desilu did. Then it went to Paramount, who offered to sell it to Roddenberry in the early-70's then to Viacom and CBS.
It depends on one's perspective. Some people don't like Alec Peters, and consider him a bloviating gasbag (which at this point is kind of being proven by his reactions).terrible news for SOME trek fans

Some people felt that there were fan productions getting too big for their britches, and was concerned that it would ruin the whole thing for everyone.
These people probably don't find this news as terrible as, say, someone who had donated money to the project, but that doesn't mean they're "not real" fans. People really have to stop with this "real fans" and "not real fans" bullshit. If you like Star Trek, you're a fan. Done. End of.

Absolutely Right (tm)
I'm wondering why CBS is asking for a jury trial?
It's obvious to me that the Axanar group has pissed off the big boys in a big way, and maybe public humiliation on top of bankrupting Peters is the only thing that will make them smile again. Anyone who didn't see at least the possibility of this coming down the pike (ahem) is either disturbingly gullible or just hasn't been paying attention.
It makes me no difference either way. I wasn't that impressed with Prelude, and all the delays have had red alert sirens going off in my head for some time. Honestly, I never thought the feature would ever get made anyway, and this guarantees that it won't.
Personally, I think this whole thing has been a scam run by a 2nd class grifter with delusions of grandeur. Peters is no Bernie Madoff, but he damn sure tried to be.
So that's why I've been given the cold shoulder. *smokes pipe*It depends on one's perspective. Some people don't like Alec Peters, and consider him a bloviating gasbag (which at this point is kind of being proven by his reactions).what trek fans it it not bad news for ?

Absolutely Right (tm)
GUH, I forgot, technically Viacom owned it all 'till they split the company up, then Star Trek itself was split between Paramount for the movies, and CBS for the TV series, same with merch rights as well, as far as I can tell.

I think CBS owns it all and licenses rights to Paramount. Which is where they come in as Axanar was planning on using Robau and Abramsverse ship designs.
