Until we have all faced bankruptcy, a federal lawsuit, are kicked out of pretty much every forum dedicated to the franchise you're the self-proclaimed expert in, and don't have a job or family to speak of well into our 50s, we can't judge him.

If he is calling Star Trek fans stupid, why is he making Axanar for the fans?

all the words are meaningless. the arguments he is making and the rhetorical techniques he is using assert the reader is stupid.

if there is one thing you will never get away with in the long run, it is calling the Trek fanbase stupid.

According to Axanar Production’s Alec Peters: “So as not to distract from Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary year, the best thing for all parties to do is to sit down and work out a settlement that address both the interests of Paramount and CBS and the desire of over 10,000 Star Trek fans who donated to support this project.”

My translation:
Alec peters to Paramount: "Yes, I'm using your IP - I DON'T F&^KING CARE! Ten-Thousand people said I could - so there. I'm SPECIAL - YOU HAVE TO KNOW THAT. The only settlement I'll accept is: Let me keep what I've amassed and do what I want because I'm ENTITLED! Do you really want my Axanar Marines to be unleashed badmouthing everything you do on Star Trek's 50 Anniversarry? Agree to my terms or I'll hold my breath until I turn blue! That'll play real well on CNN!"

I think most people with a right mind would think that this whole lawsuit is a whole lot of geeky ridiculousness and Alec is a moron. So, go ahead. Let him hold his breath and get on CNN. Nobody will care.

"captain, Alec held his breath and now his skin is reflecting the blueness onto the set walls"

My God! The entire argument boils down to: "Sorry your Honor, but NOTHING in the Star Trek IP is copyrightable.."

The motion is mistitled - it should read: "Motion to State that Star Trek Is In The Public Domain - Please Rubber Stamp"

If any Judge agreed with this stance, hell, we might as well 100% abolish copyright. Guess that would be a big win for any grifter like Mr. Alec Peters. Personally I think W&S will get slapped hard and the motion denied; but I guess we'll see.

In the motion they talk about CBS owning some of the stuff and not Paramount, but I don't see where that would matter since both companies are involved in the lawsuit. I also don't understand how they can say some of the Trek stuff isn't or can't be copyrightable. I thought pretty much anything that was created specifically for one of the shows or movies, would automatically belong to CBS and/or Paramount?
