CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

At about 46 minutes in now. Burnett is getting huffy and puffy over the concept of doing a fan film as a labor of love vs. what things cost. The same old chestnut from these guys, ignoring the actual context of the clusterfuck they are currently in. Poor Tommy Kraft is very diplomatic about it, but Jesus Christ, Rob.

Sidebar: This podcast, technically, is awful. The occasional ping from an iPhone notification can be heard in the background, and they fidget with the microphone endlessly. The connections to Mike and Kraft are shoddy, so it's hard to make out what they are saying.

For a duo that hang their hats on "professional" presentation of their content, this podcast is a really shitty example of what they're capable of doing.

Was browsing through other parts of the board and I found this tidbit from Axanar's VFX Guru......

"The amount of hatred in some sections of this board is too much. I do not want to participate anymore, so
I was looking for a way to delete my account. Could you please let me know how to do it?
Thank you"

I would've thought that for a guy of his talents, Tobias would've been smart enough to see the implications of his association with Axanar and would've been one of the first to split. It's somewhat sad to see him take their side........... (though I don't think he's a 'true believer')

*(interestingly enough, that thread is now locked)

At about 50:40 on the podcast, where Peters takes the long way 'round to compliment Kraft, align himself to the success of Horizon, and simultaneously try to hit home the point (indirectly) that hey, these things take time and require a lot of effort from the people making them!

ALEC PETERS:
Well, I gotta say Tommy, I'm so excited for this to come out next weekend, and, and for Rob and I to sit down and watch it together, and uh, it, because I know how much effort you've put in over the past few years and we've been following your progress closely, I, I, I, venture to say that uh, the Axanar team are, are your biggest fans, and uh, obviously, uh, obviously, you're part of our team, and, and we appreciate you greatly and that we're hoping that everyone picks up the banner of Horizon and is excited about it the way I know we are, because you really poured your life into it. People don't realize what that means...you know, you've spent years of your life on doing nothing but Horizon, and um, that you should be uh, cherished for that, and applauded for that.

Here's the difference, dipshit. Tommy Kraft didn't pay himself $38,000 fucking dollars.

Absolutely Kraft should be recognized and applauded for completing his project and accomplishing the goals he set for himself. But this pseudo-passive-aggressive back-handed way of using Horizon as a means of justifying your own shitty conduct and lack of professional ethics is really a new low.

At nearly the one hour mark, discussing "what is a fan film?"

ALEC PETERS: There's a spectrum. And some people, like Tommy I-- I couldn't have done what Tommy did.
ROBERT MEYER BURNETT: Nor could I.
ALEC PETERS: One man, making this amazing, full-length feature film! God bless him!

For the first time, I have to agree with these jokers.

It really is off-putting. I can't say that enough.

Presented without commentary:

ALEC PETERS: I don't care what you decide a fan film is. Everyone can have their own definition of what a fan film is. All that matters is that you find what you like that you enjoy it.

Seems like the whole 'fan' part of the term would give its meaning away.

Now Peters is comparing himself to Elon Musk and Axanar as akin to Kennedy and NASA's objective to put a man on the moon in ten years.

I guess my question is - if you ask to have your account deleted and it is, what constitutes "banning?"

My experience as a banned member was that it meant I couldn't log in or post. So how does Tobias distinguish between having his account deleted, which he requested, and being banned?

Um.... they're discussing shooting behind the scenes featurettes for a new Blu-Ray they're going to offer as part of the Kickstarter perks soon. Am I wrong in thinking that this is flying directly in the face of the court's orders to cease all filming? Or was that order specifically about the narrative film, AXANAR?

He's probably getting paid for his work (which he has on numerous fan productions); and got a paycheck for Prelude to Axanar; so it's in his interests to keep that revenue stream open - although I don't think he realizes the situation he's in IF C/P name some of the 'Does' - and he turns out to be one of them. Interesting though that he calls TrekBBS "a dark place" because overall I believe the general discussion has been pretty level headed on this subject - and we haven't really jumped on Axanar supporters and seem to have converted a few once they get a better idea of what Axanar has been doing. Those that 'truly believe' seem to go away once hey know the BS won't go over well here - and run off to decry how terrible we are.

Tommy Kraft did an amazing job with 'Horizon' - but I think somehow he also feels safe as his film is out, and from comments I heard on another Podcast he's making sure he fulfills the terms of his KS to the letter and is getting the physical perks out (and not making or selling extras) - and he sees 'Horizon' as a stepping stone and calling card on which to build a professional career <--- But all that said, that's he acknowledged he did the compositing for Prelude to Axanar there is also a chance he could be named as well, but perhaps he sees that as unlikely because C/P didn't issue any sort of C&D or lawsuit on his project.

Still, like you it's interesting to me that they would continue associate with Mr. Peters and Axanar as Mr. peters withdraws further from the public eye - maybe they know something we don't - or Mr. Peters comes across VERY different in person.

Tobias' skill is beyond compare. He does amazing work. Frequently, his contributions are highlight of whatever fan film he is involved with. That being said, he, much like Alec Peters, cannot discern between constructive criticism of the whole and very often has confused it with being a personal attack or as if somehow the criticism of the project is somehow his fault. I'm sorry to see him go, but not at all surprised to see him flounce.

Everything I've heard about Alec and what he's like in person has been somewhat inconsistent -- he's somewhat shy and unassuming. Others have revealed that he is ambitious, power-hungry and greedy. Either way, when he interacts with people online, he always comes across as an egotistical blowhard.

I thought that court order was only until February 22nd? How can you make a behind-the-scenes when no actual film is being done?

Ah. Perhaps it was limited to only February 22. I don't know for certain. But your second question would seem to be the more pressing one.

I'm actually more interested in finding out what happens to him (presuming he's a John Doe) than I am of the others since he's involved with so many fan-film projects.
