CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Robert Meyer Burnett continues his desperate plea for me to interview him. He took to yet another late-night Twitter tirade, and while it was entertaining, it was also sad.

He so desperately wants to be interviewed. But only two outlets even considered it, and both turned him down. So now he thinks he can call me a "pussy" or challenge me in some way to do it. Nope. Still not interested.

I told him I'm not really all that keen on interviewing has-been directors who can't see past their own nose. Also, I only interview people who I feel will at least attempt to give me straight answers. And I don't respond to desperation.

I did tell him that he will get an interview soon enough. It will be as part of a deposition with the lawyers from CBS/Paramount, but he can pretend that's an interview.

Personally I'd give him the interview and do it exclusively on the basis that it is posted as a transcript, like you ended up doing with Peters.

We didn't post a Peters transcript. And interview subjects don't dictate terms -- especially when they come to me asking for an interview. :D

He certainly name drops Propworx or his prop collection in general a lot in the latest video. "Oh hi! You caught me leaning on my phase cell from Defiant"
I wonder if Axanar rented or bought props from Propworx, and if I bet Propworx would be the official Axanar prop dealer

There's a comedy screenplay buried in all this. Galaxy Quest: The Seedy Underbelly or something.

Pitch that to the folks at Amazon, they plan to make a GQ show!

I happened to see this today and it may be useful for one or two of you:

So what is your greatest strength ?
My +5 Broadsword...
And your greatest weakness ?
Silver....I was bitten by a werebeast, I don't turn, per say, I just get a little gruff on nights with full moons
Burnett himself called me a multi-chinned two-bit blogger, after singing my praises about 24 hours before when he was begging me to interview him.
Would you give him the interview, if you then post an audio (video, if possible) transcript to ensure he won't then turn around say you misquoted him?

It was clear to me from the first conversation with Burnett that his interest isn't in talking about the Axanar difficulties. He's enthusiastic about the movie he's trying to make and he's convinced that if he can show someone what's actually being done on the soundstage and in preproduction that they'll become sold on Axanar and turn to promoting it online.

That's pretty myopic.

Oy.

This is why I don't practice any more.

This is such an easy way for someone to spout off, in the heat of the moment, all sorts of things that will end up as exhibits, in the current matter and potentially in a future matter or matters. It is a way to make a defense all the more difficult.

I really, really wish the potential Doe defendants (some of whom are pretty damned obvious) would start playing the long game. Calling out journalists and bloggers and podcasters to try to make some elusive and ever-moving point is not the way to do that.

The movie he's trying to make cannot and will not happen. How can he not see this?
Not to defend him but I can understand how getting so close to a lifelong dream, something that may have driven you to your career choice and where you are today might be hard to let go and not be too eager to look at the how this is being made as opposed to getting to make it.

Does anyone know if he ever considered directing a new voyages or continues or Farragut.
Which I'm sure many of us would love to be an extra in the background even if its just the back of our head at a console

Don't forget they constantly bury the lead when it's bad by posting bad news in follow up comments.

Today we learned that...

So, in short: "We're not talking about what you paid for nor will you be getting the things you paid for."

Well I can agree with Terry that they should not be talking about the case. I can also agree with the logic of trying to avoid multiple shipments, if possible, to help cut costs (shipping costs do add up). I have a lot of recent expertise in this area LOL. It all depends on how much shipping cost they built into the particular perk. That said, the fact that barely anything has been shipped at all, is very troubling and they should ship what they can before the litigation, even if they have to pay some extra shipping. Obviously, they will not have perks ready like the DVD's etc., but some other items they can ship out.

Terry, if you reading these posts you really need to leave Axanar. I know others have asked you this same thing for over a year now (after Prelude was done). Many left after Prelude because they saw what was going on, and have advised you to do the same. You need to get away from this toxic situation. If CBS starts to name Does you will be one of them, leave now to avoid anymore risk. Your loyalty to Alec is admirable but you need to think of your own well being. Is this situation really worth it? Same goes with some others on the team that are high up on the food chain. I know I have said this before in this thread, but this is Alec's battle, not yours, please let common sense prevail.

Look, I'm not the kind of person who nags and nags until I get what I want. Y'all needed time, and this was for a full feature, fine. I voiced my concerns in here and they get deleted because it you can't have people being unhappy with you in this group? That's BS. I'm not looking to sift through an orgy of information. Sum it up. I'm not interested in reading your pages and pages of stuff. Maybe it makes y'all feel like you've actually done something, but it doesn't change where the project actually IS. In fact, summing it up on a regular basis might have actually stay on schedule.

As a scholar, the people I had to be accountable to didn't want every bleedin' minutiae of detail about how my research was going. They wanted updates that were succinct. They wanted deadlines kept. If it wasn't perfect, guess what? It'll never be perfect, but go with it anyway. There's always room for improvement, and if you think not, they could find five people to recommend improvements right there in the building.

I kicked in on a big project. There's been nothing - not one thing - sent out. No challenge coins or patches. Somebody posted the link to the digital stuff, and that's great, but it doesn't make up for a project estimated to be finished in December 2014 (that's from the actual Kickstarter rewards option, as it's listed)

As a human being, I'm allowed to feel frustrated at the likelihood that my support was for naught. Don't give me homework (reading through every minute piece of afore mentioned orgy of information) and tell me I have no excuse to be upset when I realize that there really has been NO progress and now CBS/Paramount is taking issue with y'all.

So, Terry, if the collective Axanar ego is so fragile that it cannot handle people voicing criticism, I have no reason to believe that Axanarians will really have much of a chance to read this post, either. But it reinforces what I've already seen in here. You know it, and I know it. Keep in mind, however, that this highly curated group is not the only place for my voice.

Says the scholar. Many of us are scholars, and many of us also know how to post our issues, but without the drama. Please, continue to read the many posts made on a regular basis. We can work together as friendly acquaintances towards our common goal. But we must all learn to use a bit of tact, diplomacy, and emotional intelligence. As for Team Axanar; Warp Speed!

Right. There you go. Try to belittle the person voicing the argument instead of actually speaking to the issue. Hero material right there.

FYI - I'm finished with this thread, so...fire at will.

It's sad when you see donors starting to see the light (like Anneli), and then other donors (like Robert), turn against them because they themselves are still in denial. We will be seeing this scenario more and more, it is inevitable but still sad.

mildly?
I remember my math teacher in high school quoting this.
Oh and John Cleease's Roman General, what was that chaps name again?

I'm just waiting for the inevitable. Peters, Burnett, McIntosh and Kingsbury turning on each other in very public manner in an attempt to save themselves.

I don't intend this to be offensive to you and the fine folks at 1701news... but it's pretty sad when you are desperate to be interviewed by a niche website/blog with a rather limited audience.

It also shows that not all who donated drank the Kool Aid. To steal a phrase from Richard Nixon, I believe Anneli is part of the silent majority of donators. Indeed, he was very patient for very long, and deserves better than being told by Axanar to "find your own answers" in the soup of gobbledygook they post. Especially if I gave more than the $75 average, that response would infuriate me. What happened to transparency and accountability? If I paid for about seven to ten square yards of that carpet, I should expect to be getting some kind of perk back in return. It was promised.
