Wait. That is a real Newsweek article? Having done so much personal research on this, um, production & the defendant throughout the case as well as starting out defending the defendant so staunchly until what I was verifying just couldn't be ignored by me any further, the article is so very disturbing in its inaccuracies.

It was just two days ago now that I was listening to a notable neuroscientist's talk on cults & Believers and the sway Belief has on the human brain to the disregard of all that doesn't support it. Mentioning Heaven's Gate & Scientologists among others, including (no really) 'sections of fans in ST' who have also taken Belief to the extreme.

(It was a very brief off-hand mention and in no-way at all did he indicate or indict nor disparage fandom at large in any way whatsoever, nor identify any particular extreme ST groups or persons.)

And the otherwise decent intelligent people who find what they need in these cult-like Beliefs, standing at all costs against the rest of whomever who, you know, isn't filtering data the way they are.

Interestingly, also talked to the identifiable traits generally found common in leaders of cult & cult-like groups who are able to identify and court those who will need to believe what they are offering. And I thought of the defendantandbelievers when I heard That part. Identifiable traits and all. (btw- Also including myself in the iwasn'treallypayingattentionbeforethelawsuithit believer/contributor/avid supporter group of course)

And today there's this article.

Just shaking my head in the I guess cognitive dissonance I'm experiencing knowing how and why this happens in the human brain.... and the discouragement this is a human trait that to one degree or another most anyone can get swept away in. Politics anyone? Ideology anyone? Nationalism vs..? axanar anyone? Theology anyone?

I need chocolate.

The comments section on that closed rather fast.

Here's the part of that "stifles creativity" argument that doesn't fly with me: Star Trek isn't literally Forbidden Planet or its numerous other influences. It's inspired by those but doesn't ape the particulars. In fact, having to remix those inspirations to make your own recipe is arguably MORE creative than slavishly reproducing Star Trek or whatever. The argument, on that end, is rubbish for that reason.

Star Trek belongs to CBS and Paramount. the fact that they have provided us some guidelines to allow us to know where to play in the sandbox is incredibly generous and gracious.

Thank God they didn’t take the Star Wars route, where copyright is taken off the creators and it is much more tightly controlled.

Who does he know at Newsweek? Isn't this the second article they've done on Axanar? For a major magazine that seems.............odd.

It's not Newsweek proper, but Player One, part of the "Newsweek Media Group" (whatever that really means).

This says a lot.............Player.One is an exciting rebrand of the popular iDigitalTimes.com, which reaches 8M+ unique gamers, more than 2/3 of whom are millennials.

Plus it's happy Pi day so anything goes, right?
