Star Trek has had its share of conflicts and wars but to suggest its Star Trek truly misses the point. Again, this is about the technology. The amount of discussion about starship classes and firepower is overwhelming. Where’s the human condition? We see very little of that, instead making these characters superheroes. It, like many fan films, completely misses the point of what Trek is really about.
 
I liked it. I liked this story better than the Klingon War we saw in DISCO seasons 1 and 2 (the aftermath). This fits with the lore I grew up with and does not challenge expectations simply for the sake of challenging expectations.

Yes it's a war movie making these Starfleet officers out as heroes. That's what documentaries about wars made by the winning side does.

No, I did not follow any of the lawsuit.

Yes, I'm surprised and confused this is still a thing. I thought it had been killed. I thought, based on comments here, Alec Peters stole everyone's money and was hiding beyond extradition. Guess I better catch up on the lawsuit.

No, this really was not worth 12 years of wait but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to challenge the perception you are a shill ripping donors off through unfulfilled Kickstarters.
 
I still enjoyed it. I like the documentary style they have retained for this one. It still fits an era of Star Trek. Even though that era was now a long time ago (early 80s), it is still interesting to see it.

Agreed. They keep saying THIS IS STAR TREK but Star Trek has never been about the ships and tech...as Armin once said---it's about the people.

Every time Peters is on screen as Garth I cringed.
 
I think they were trying to spice up the talking heads segments, along with giving them stuff to cut to to cover edits, but they went a bit over-the-top with it.
 
Yeah, they kind of regurgitated that whole "cinema verité" bullshit thing that was so popular back in the 00's. NuBSG did that to the level of becoming almost nauseating with all the shaky-cam nonsense. Thankfully, it's not as common these days, but it shows up on occasion. Some people still think it's cool and edgy, I guess.

That brings up an interesting question. Removing AP from the equation for a moment, Garth's history is minimal. According to MA:
His legacy was tarnished following the accident that left him badly maimed and near death. The gentle beings of Antos IV nursed him in his darkest hour, and gifted him with their technique of cellular metamorphosis to repair his mangled body. In gratitude, he "offered them the galaxy" – an offer refused. By this point, he was no longer the honored captain of the history books, and his diseased mind found such offense in Antos' rejection that he ordered his forces to annihilate the entire species. Whatever loyalty he once inspired in his crews vanished, and they refused his order. Federation authorities deemed it appropriate that Garth be sent to an asylum for the criminally insane. By 2268, he was in a ward of Elba II.

So was he driven to madness because of his injuries and/or subsequent repair, or did he always have megalomaniacal tendencies that maybe started slowly manifesting before the accident and went into overdrive after? Did the shapeshifting ability he was given scramble his brain every time he used it?

As a side trivia note, some folks roll their eyes at the first name "Kelvar" as being a construct of AP's when it appears that the name first appeared in the novel Sorrows of the Empire (published in 2007 as a short story, expanded and re-released in 2009/2010) as the Mirror-Universe Garth. Kind of a deep cut, but there it is. Full name listed as "Kelvar Leonard Garth".

It's more tragic if he was a good man before. But there's more drama to mine in if he has personality flaws before the accident.

I guess Star Trek is public domain now, since this for-profit bootleg Star Trek venture is being allowed and all Paramount's dictates toward Alec and Axanar have been violated without comeuppance? What happened to the $30,000+ Alec owed Paramount?

If anyone can say that is "true" Star Trek and Strange New Worlds not, please re-evaluate your life. It was a decent fan film, it was more of the same that Prelude was. For 12 years and well over a million? A complete joke.
