How long, and for how many fundraisers, can he draw out post production I wonder? 18-24 months I guess.
It's almost an art form. I still continue to receive emails regarding sales of memorabilia from his personal collection. He's going through some Babylon 5 stuff right now. There must still be a ton of shit in storage to prolong the burn.

It may also end up like Fast and Furious franchise were shots are inserted from newer films into older ones and continuity gets a bit messed up as actors seem to age and de-age a decade between shots from the same scene.Filming has been going on for so long with these shorts wrinkles will appear and disappear between shots.

The sociology of folks with the same interests…be it fan films or storm chasing is of interest. Here you had a small group that had high hopes…let things get away from them. But when it’s a project or riot…people get dumber in groups.
Then too…with folks able to do wonders in an ever more solitary fashion…what pathologies will that yield?

LOL, I thought the exact same thing, except: apparently I finally need glasses, because I read what Csalem wrote as "Merch video update" and instantely concluded that old Patches O’Houlihan has some new buttons for us or something like that.
Regarding AI: I like Star Trek Continues and New Voyages, I think most of the appeal in fan films comes from a "I would have really liked to see another season of TOS" standpoint, therefor, what I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see would be Continues and New Voyages with an AI overlay of Mr. Shatner's, Mr. Nimoy's, Mr. Kelley's and Mr. Doohan's faces/bodies and voices. Not because the new actors are bad, just because I'd like to know what it would feel like. I think it would be fabulous. Can anyone do that?
I must enjoy fan films because I worked on about 50 of them and others not credited for. When you move away from real people acting and move towards more computer generated, the projects land into the hands of people with different concepts and new flavors of art. It just sort of takes all the fun out of it for me.
New technologies should be used to create new universes to play in, not recreating the old ones.

I think I can see where you're coming from and I don't totally disagree, but where would you draw the line? I imagine making a fan film today (lets says with smartphones or modern cameras and video editing software) is already using new technologies to recreate old universes. Wouldn't the same the same go for a more "organic" movie? Why does the level of technology make a difference you think? I guess I'm just so biggoted and spoilt and disappointed by new productions to a level where I'd rather watch a computer generated episode of TOS rather than anything "newly" created which I admit is rather sad.
Agreed to a certain level. I do appreciate that we have such dedicated fans who do the research, and recreate sets in such a detail and that is part of what makes a fan film so fun-it shows the dedication.
But, the flip side is that it remains pretty well stuck in the past, and insisting upon trying to recapture that past feeling with new tech is largely impossible because the new tech already adds a new flavor that couldn't be achieved from older technology, or even considered at the time of the older productions. Fans films are best when they show the love of the fans, not the "what might have been" attitude because, well, that's not accurate.
Why is it sad? You prefer the older to the newer. That's hardly revolutionary thinking.

JJ trek or Disco (which I quit watching after a few episodes) Do they capture the feeling of trek we all came to know and love? To some perhaps. The balance of "Eye candy" and Story line gets completely lost.
If we dive into AI Trek, How long before they'll have william shatner doing spinning fireball leaps in his battle against the Gorn? It's no longer human verses Alien in a struggle to discover what these things called humans are all about.
Worked for Kevin Sorbo's Andromeda because they never wrapped it up and sold it to you as Star Trek.
Black and White photography, Vinyl recordings made a bit of a comeback because people that understood the old tech captured something which cutting edge digital and computer technologies completely misses.
Call it the Human element, I don't know. It's above my pay grade.

Yes, in some ways, and no in others. TOS was wild and wooly and that's what I like about Kelvin Trek and Discovery but at the heart are extremely human stories about people wrestling with real emotions and challenges in a chaotic universe.
Because it's a process. It's not instantaneous. It requires a measure of delayed gratification.
I think it's time for Paramount to move into the modern age. Turn TOS over to the public domain, take all this new film tech, go out into the Universe and build bold new worlds.New Plot Lines, new adventures that fits the modern film technology. There are too many brilliant minds locked into this "If it's Not Star Trek nobody will green light it"
Isn't that what Major Productions studios are suppose to do, move upward and onward?

That sounds great on paper. Right now the economy is in a contraction and companies are risk adverse. And, by and large, so are a lot of audience members. There's a larger interest in nostalgia, and recreating the past than doing anything new. Because new means doing something never done before, and humans generally don't know how to feel about that.
Star Trek would rather look to the past because it is comfortable, safe and gives an illusion of a better time that didn't actually exist.
