Prelude was, unfortunately, a flash-in-the-pan. He had real professionals - real talent - working on the project and AP really hadn’t burned any bridges yet. Then, one by one, it started falling apart, all because of Alec’s hubris. Between the lawsuit and the cross-country move to Georgia, a lot of time and progress was lost. Now, it seems that Alec never intended to produce a full movie, but simply to build consecutive crowd funds to line his own pockets, rather than produce anything meaningful. What we have seen of the future production further suffers from the lack of professional involvement that left long ago. The acting is horrible, the story is nothing more than pew-pew and random shouting, the uniforms are ill-fitting, the photon torpedoes fly way too slow in the space fights, and on and on. In the end, he not only burned all the bridges that would have led to some modicum of success, he demolished them with thermite.

In short, it is all really quite a tragic waste.

Indeed. It pains me to hear Axanar supporters call it "true Trek" (trademark pending) when it very much is doing what they accuse both Abrams and now Kurtzman Trek of doing.

I'm not sure those two things make sense together. It's possible, if not probable, that he'll never finish the film, but what is his hubris about if he doesn't think he'll actually complete the film? Why make yourself the star of a film you won't finish? I think he's convinced himself that he WILL finish, and I think in his mind it will be a great film and everyone will love his performance, and that's how he justifies everything.

There is hubris in believing you can keep getting away with the same bs over and over again. Likewise in believing you can monetize someone else's IP to the hilt without ever having to face the consequences of that.

It does if we assume his hubris stems in part from narcissism. I don't believe Alec can tolerate the idea that he's UNABLE to finish the film. He may stretch it out to financially benefit from it, but that's not the same thing.

You proceed from a false assumption.

It's not about Alec believing he can finish the film because he doesn't give a damn about finishing it one way or another. It's about his believing he can use the promise of a completed film to get desperate trekkies to support him financially while he abuses someone else's IP. The hubris will come when the idiots among us stop trying to prove him right by continually giving him their cash. The hubris will come when those who have already sunk money into this scheme either demand results NOW or demand refunds. The hubris will come when Viacom finally lays the smackdown on him for real instead of giving him leeway to finish a film he doesn't give a rat's ass about finishing.

So, no, he's not lying awake at night worried that he won't finish the film. He's also not strutting around cocksure that he'll finish it no matter what obstacle stands in his way. He doesn't care. The film, complete or not, is secondary to his real agenda.

Alec Peters has no incentive to finish the film. Why? Because once he does, The cash flow stops; and further people get to see the results and believe me the majority will probably not be happy because the script is shit.

I made it up to the fight with the Klingons, and I swear if it says one more time how much everyone is impressed by amazing Garth is I'm going to lose it.
I always knew this was a vanity project for Alec, but holy shit in his first two or three pages we get him flirting with a female member of his crew, and then are repeatedly told how amazing his crew thinks he is. That is just at a whole other level from what I expected.

I read through the next four parts of the analysis and it sounds like it doesn't get any better.
Just for comparison I read the first couple scenes of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 script, and it was interesting comparing the two. Gunn definitely wrote much better script, and after reading a better one, I could see where a lot of the criticisms of the Axanar script were coming from.
I am a little confused, because I thought Peters brought in a big experienced screenwriter, but it seems like the script is filled to the brim with nothing but amateurish mistakes.

As has been reported by previous professional collaborators, Alec is extremely resistant to editorial changes that

Reduce Garth's "screen time"
Give secondary characters agency
Give female characters agency
Portray Garth in a negative way
Portray Garth as having flaws, making mistakes, or being anything other than an hyper idealized version of how Alec chooses to view himself

So while I am sure that Alec was given constructive creative advice, he obviously chose to ignore that advice.

Give female characters agency
Portray Garth in a negative way
Portray Garth as having flaws, making mistakes, or being anything other than an hyper idealized version of how Alec chooses to view himself

So while I am sure that Alec was given constructive creative advice, he obviously chose to ignore that advice.

No wonder why Garth went crazy; he could not live-up to perfection!!
