Considering that this letter was concerned about the mention of 'an independent Star Trek film' and funding issues, which was most of the main thrust of the lawsuit, what was in the other eight letters?:wtf:

That is what Alec says was in the letter. Carlos reported they wanted detailed accounting of all money raised as well.

As to what would be in other 8 letters there is tons to choose from. Minimizing YouTube, industry studios fundraiser, trekceters. A smorgasbord of stuff to choose from.

Aside from the sdesign of the U.S.S. Ares there was very little original in Prelude (Hell, the entire war story setup was lifted whole hog from a FASA Star Trek RPG Sourcebook and come on, there WAS NO REAL STORY HERE. It was a bunch of talking heads in front on greenscreens aping faux military tactic speeches in the style of any WWII/Vietnam/etc. war documentary where they have vets talk about a battle.
I'd say what was very successful with regard to Prelude, even though it was derivative, is that it functioned well as an extended trailer and sold people on the idea of Axanar as being this incredible story waiting to be told.

We've seen the final script and know it was a steaming pile, if Peters wasn't a grifter and Axanar had actually been made, I'd bet most of the ardent fans would probably have been disappointed that it didn't live up to their expectations, and it would already be largely forgotten by now.

Fund raising for Axanar has begun. Got an unsolicited email today.

the idea of Axanar (from Prelude) was alwaysgoing to be better than what the eventual movie would've been - (much like the Alien and Star Wars and Terminator prequels) - sometimes things hinted/glimpsed at are better left to be in the imagination than explored fully in a movie.

I'm sure they are spamming every email address that they have ever acquired..........

Of course since they can't publically fundraise they are going to have to to have any chance of getting the $200K he thinks he needs (and I still want to know how he gets to that figure)

But there's a problem, and it's a theory I've put forward before and take the opportunity to do so again. The problem with saying "just let him make the films" is that he never wanted to make a film. That was never his goal. What he wanted was to turn "Prelude" into a money-making venture that lived on past just making the feature film.

Exactly. At first, I thought LFIM was just some schmuck with an oversized ego who wanted to make a movie as a means of getting some attention.

The more time went on though and the more we all learned about him, the more I came to realize that the "film" is just a front. Look at LFIM and his professional background. He's done very little of substance, hasn't established himself in any career field and really, has no viable means of supporting himself/establish a stable income stream. Additionally, his 'resume' if you will is checkered by failed business ventures and accusations of outright fraud.

He saw the dissatisfaction in some quarters, with the JJTrek films and also saw the cult-like following of various fan-produced ventures out there. Finally, he somehow honed in on the obscure sector of fandom that I myself played in--that dealt with FASA and other old-school Trek elements**--and concluded there was a market for the kind of old-school Trek typified by TWOK.

**(I have a blog here where I present/post starship class histories. For some of those in the TOS era, I've used plot elements from various FASA publications to flesh out those histories. There's 2-4 of them where I've used the Four Years War as a major plot device. I can't be certain, but I think what happened was he stumbled upon my blog, read some of the stuff I had up at the time and that's where he got the whole idea for Axanar)

With all those pieces roiling around inside his head, he built the elaborate facade that became Axanar and built/hyped it up to the point where outsiders were completely oblivious to the red flags I mentioned above. If one were to look at those red flags, then look at how he was hyping/promoting Axanar, it would start to become obvious that he had more than just making a fan film on his mind.

If he wanted the post-Prelude glory and accolades again, easiest way would have been to release another film to GET glory and accolades. Agree he's still chasing the high, and the ex-high school QB that still thinks about it but can't DO it is an apt analogy.

Of course, he got into trouble when he tried to parlay it into a funding stream and business instead of doing what got him there in the first place.

Then you must have LOVED Star Trek Into Darkness because that's where Tobias Rhicther copied the composition of a majority of his ship effects shots from. Aside from the sdesign of the U.S.S. Ares there was very little original in Prelude (Hell, the entire war story setup was lifted whole hog from a FASA Star Trek RPG Sourcebook and come on, there WAS NO REAL STORY HERE. It wasn a VFX fest (again lifted for the most part from Star Trek Into Darkness) with a few easter eggs.

I got my start in tabletop gaming because of the old FASA tabletop game and am still active in producing fan content for the game 30 years after official support ended so I definitely knew about the inspiration behind Prelude even before Alec explained it multiple times in youtube interviews with channels I subscribed to. I'm also a fan of those talking head war documentaries that are interspersed with stock footage peripherally related to the personal story being told. I know exactly what Prelude was and wasn't and am under no illusions as to how the whole project was messed up in the years since nor who is directly responsible for most of it. But... thanks for the recap, I guess?

So it looks like they're live streaming the filming on youtube so something is definitely going on today despite the warning. It's about 18-20 people walking around alternately mumbling and clapping in a circle around a mic at the moment so I'm guessing they're recording background noise for certain scenes.

He's the HS QB without his star RB and his stud offensive line who enabled him to do the things he did.

It sounds like they started shooting before funding was in place. If so, that strikes me as bass-ackwards, but maybe I'm missing something.

There will be plenty of time to donate. FIVE different fundraisers planned so you can't miss out on donating as much as you want.
