Every fan film infringes on copyright.
A two hour limit? Who has made a fan film linger then two hours?
A movie called ST horizon. One hour and 42 minutes. Not exactly 2 hours but definitely more than 30 minutes. Yes it’s all one part. You should watch it all though it does not have that great of acting on the bright side everybody in the film is definitely amateur. Definitely doesn’t break that rule.
And on a sidenote he didn’t make the movie to give the middle finger to CBS he made it because he loved Star Trek

It’s not really that long. let me give you example right now watching a fan film that’s about an hour long it’s a pretty good one however under these new guidelines it will not be allowed to be shown luckily they started their project before the guidelines so they have a special arrangement to where the rules and not apply atleast in the timeframe. the Romulan war, By the way that project is in no way associated with the axanar project, Explores the earth Romulan war and is going to be a pretty good one in the making some good progress but know these new guidelines explores the earth Romulan war and is going to be a pretty good one in the making some good progress but under these new guidelines they would only be be able to allow only 30 minutes. But luckily again they started this one before these guidelines and hopefully CBS will have no problem with them. Also Star Trek horizon is also way over the 30 minute limit but luckily they were made in release before the guidelines. Point is these are some pretty good programs and they are not infringing on cbs IP. They won’t make any money off of their projects. they can barely fund their projects. Star Trek horizon was a no budget film it’son YouTube they definitely did not make any money out of it. Now the Romulan war they do sell premium access to their website that will give people who buys such access a an extended look at the production and facts on stuff that will be used throughout the movie but then again they’re probably using only bto fund their project because they don’t have that much money.
Plus I can’t even be a full 30 minutes you have to be split into two. I mean would it kill them to allow a one hour or two hour time limit. Most of fan films despite what some people may say actually do go more than 30 minutes. There are also several fanon Shows that go on for more than 30 minutes but luckily they were made well before this guideline so that won’t affect them. I mean the time limit seems stupid.
I just find it unfair that they implement this rule just because of one bad apple. I don’t have a problem with the other ones they seem reasonable.

30 minutes is 30 minutes. Lots of complete stories can be told in that time.

Obviously they shouldn’t be making money in their films. It’s not theirs to make money on.

My point is what would be the point of a 2 hour limit that YOU suggested when no movie has gone over 2 hours? That is a useless limit.

The important think here is that he has been taken to court and found GUILTY of fraud. He could face up to 240 years in prison. Sentencing in September.

I once mistakenly lamented the guidelines could create the conditions for a group to create a space adventure better than modern Star Trek.
Then I was quickly reminded that all the fan film talent wasn't enough to make a dish wash commercial.
I have nothing to prove so to each their own, have a nice life....Auf Wiedersehen, get off my wall.

It was a general suggestion not an exact time limit. Can you please explain to me why should it be a time limit at all. I also suggested a one hour time limit. I would think that would be pretty fair.

At what point did I say they should make money off of it?
I am Obviously not disagreeing with you in on that point. I’m sorry I did not make that point clear in my first post.

Trust me, some fan films linger a lot more than 2 hours, even some 10 minute ones are so bad you can't get the taste of crap out of your mouth. ;)

The Guidelines are fine. The fanfilm scene had become an out-of-control arms race bordering on or teetering into fraud. It was time to yank the chain.

It’s not like these people are going to displace CBS. I have seen their acting it’s definitely not very good although it gives it a certain charm to it . And only a handful of the movies are good
As long as they folow the rules and not knowingly violate copyright or IP, why not let them have a little fun.
To be honest I’m not exactly that crazy for fan films ( I don’t mind reading books.) I just feel that People been treated harsh because the one rotten apple.
However as I reflect I can see why they did it I don’t necessarily approve absolutely everything they did but I can see why they did it.

The limit is there for s very simple reason. They don’t want fan films confused with regular trek so they can’t be the length of a normal episode or a feature film. It really is that simple.

Trust me I’ve watched it you’re definitely not gonna confuse ut with an actual fan film just because it’s an hour. And plus the nearly every one they put in the closure or beginning saying that this is not an official production.

You didn't, but, you keep repeating these fan films aren't making any money. And I don't know why.
I just wanted to make it very clear that I’m not stupid. And that I do not think that people should be able to make money off of other people. I’m sorry if I bored or confused you by being overtly repetitive I apologize.
Wonder if CBS will be going to grandfather clause films made before the guide lines and not just start taking down stuff.

This has been discussed beyond ad-nauseam since the guidelines were released years ago. Nothing has been taken down, so there's nothing to wonder about.
I didn’t know it was years ago I thought he came out recently. Even though I like Star Trek I don’t keep up with the news.

The creative force behind Horizon is Tommy Kraft. Very talented filmmaker who literally taught himself to sew to be able to make the uniforms. He was in pre-production for a sequel when CBS very politely asked him not to. No sarcasm, it was a polite request, but Tommy is not stupid and fully understood that CBS could swat him like a bug if he didn't cease and desist. And now you know the rest of the story...

Wow I did not know that he learn how to sew to make the uniforms. Too bad. Maybe if he was in production they would’ve let him make it. Oh well at least we still have horizon. Which for a no budget film it’s pretty good.

Basic sewing isn't that hard to learn. I used to help make elaborate Ren Faire clothes from scratch without patterns. It didn't take long to learn. Sewing machines make things much easier for basic garment construction.
