The question is will fans fund a non-Trek? It happened with Space Command (partly on the names of Doug Drexler and others who left), sure. IIRC Renegades 2 raised their budget before having to file the serial numbers off, so I wonder if they'd have been able to raise as much for their barely-non-Trek version?

The appeal to many backers of Axanar seems to have been this "tru-fan" "tru-Trek" idea, and delivering non-Trek non-Klingons fighting non-Feds is more likely to get non-backing.

Peters figured out a gravy train and he's not going to get off it unless he has to. CBS should have forced him to disembark and never ride those rails again as part of the settlement.

Orville is simply a space adventure, not to knock it but it sure seems Seth sees a plot from Star Trek or Battle Star Galactica and it becomes an Orville plot. He still has Space seed, Whom gods destroy, Trouble with tribbles and all those unprotected fan film plots to acquire.
Space Janitors and Voyage Trekkers got off to decent starts, probably out of curiosity before they ran out of steam.
Right, Who would fund a non trek series, what if that's a just a myth?

I don't know, but I don't think Renegades pitched themselves as making "true Star Trek," or if they did then they didn't push it nearly as hard as Axanar has, unless I'm completely mistaken.

I think the angle of "The film Paramount didn't want you to see!" has so much potential. The casuals can grasp that, far moreso than the backstory of an obscure character from a forgotten TOS episode or some empty notion of "true Trek"

When I was a tiny Trekker and they took The Lieutenant off air I thought Star Trek was just the next season of it. A few of the same actors.

I posted in the original Axanar thread that our local Fox affliate in Los Angeles showed footage from Renegades in doing an entertainment news piece about Star Trek Beyond. This is what I saw about ten minutes (as of this writing, March 17, 2019) on that same channel in a story about Captain Marvel.
