And it's alienating those of who actually do produce fan films. Time to move along. Nothing left to see here.
I haven't been alienated... and I disagree, there is still plenty to see - the megalomaniac that is Alec continues to pan handle to anyone with a passing hatred of what CBS is doing now - and he is succeeding.

He is continuing to trade off Star Trek IP (this time in an ironic way) to pay his bills.

And STILL there is no Axanar.

I’ve been avoiding posting here for months. I’ve posted two or three times in the last couple of weeks and one those posts resulted in me being labelled a pedant. God forbid we actually get our facts straight.

Maurice posts helpful and informative stuff about film making in general, and his feedback is likewise helpful. But it seems most people just ignore his comments. Constructive discussion about fanfilms is pretty rare now, which is a shame because it used to be one of the more welcoming places.

In the end, people are free to discuss what they want. The rest of us are free not to engage.

This. He has created this incredible negative bubble in which it has become impossible to praise both DSC AND Axanar. He has created this black and white reality, where CBS is a ruthless monster and he is the sad victim.
He has also generated this crazy idea that a 'documentary-style short film' about nothing but war equals 'True Trek'. He releases a piece of CGI footage of two ships in combat that could have as easily have come out of BSG or a WWII movie and there's praise all over: 'This is True Trek', etc. Basically it's just a space battle, without any exploration, the human condition, nothing. DSC is lightyears ahead in terms of 'Trekian-themes', yet the rabid Axanar-fanbase claims the exact opposite. In the meantime, he deletes critical comments and rallies up his supporters to bombard the internet with Anti-CBS statements. And then he surrounds himself with a couple of the most umpleasent people imaginable: Jonathan Lane, David Gerrold... Of course he uses every opportunity he can to smear his 'competitors on CBS's good side'... So yeah, I've started to develop a great aversion towards Alec and the Axanar-project.

Hey, I would love to talk about fanfilms, but most of the discussions on them peter out after a few posts. I don't necessarily think there are fewer fanfilms being released—NV and Continues aside—but we certainly see fewer announcements, many of which were driven by the perceived easy money of crowdfunding.

If anything, I think we're seeing a bit of a correction: fan films are going back to being fan films instead of money-making efforts and wanna-be pro productions.

Well, this IS a thread about Axanar; not a general fan film discussion.

The question I have to ask is what is the desired goal of Axamonitor?

To get him to make the movie?
To bankrupt him financially?
To make him a pariah?
Is that what you want your lasting legacy to be?

And at what point can you say "Mission Accomplished"?

And then what will you do?

I tired of this nearly a year ago. I don't see the point anymore. I've actually considered asking the board to move this non-ending bashing to TNZ because it's no longer about making a fan film. It's a self-perpetuating cycle of hate. (I keep looking for a space pin-wheel alien in the corners of the room whenever I visit this thread.) And it's alienating those of who actually do produce fan films. Time to move along. Nothing left to see here.
You really DON'T see a point tom trying to make information available to potential victims of a scam? This thread isn't a "self-perpetuating cycle of hate" - hell, I don't hate Alec Peters; what I hate is the immoral actions he continues to to engage in.

I believe he's referring to the overall change in tone in this forum in recent years in reference and whether or not that is a result of Axanar and threads about it dominating the discussion.
It IS a shame that the overall tone of discussion in the fan film world has changed.
It is also a shame that so many new fans were introduced to that world BECAUSE of the high-dollar fan projects like Renegades and Prelude. I think it colored what people expect in a negative way, because it was an unsustainable trend.

That came about because of a sorta perfect storm of:

- Trek being off the air for decade and not being sure what CBS was going to do with it. People wanted to make there own version of trek that was close to what they lost in 2005 when Enterprise ended.

- Crowd-funding sites that came in to prominence at the beginning of this decade. There was actually some precursors to online crowdfunding before this, like Trekunited in 2005

- Updates to computers hardware and software that made it easier for the average person to create decent VFX and a much cheaper cost.

- People in the industry getting involved that made it easier to get well know actors involved and thus boost the promotion of their respective projects.

- Sites like Youtube and Vimeo that let producers put trailers that reached a more massive audience.

I was involved with all these aspects above (to one degree or other), and was even there helping Alec to get going (then the one-upsmanship started) before Prelude. Unfortunately, Alex got to much money, and got greedy, and basically screwed the who thing up for a lot of us. If Alec had started his production after his first big funding drive, Axanar would be done, and we would not be here in this thread talking about it. He had to try and get his own studio, when he should have just rented one and got the film done. What he failed at, and still fails, to understand is, its not his money! When people donate, they put there TRUST in you to deliver. I hate that these early donors got screwed, if goes against my core values of delivering what you promised.

As far as big fan films go, their dead, the guidelines killed them. Maybe its a good thing, Star Trek is back and there is more to come. I have also enjoyed some of the more recent small fan films. Keep it up guys!

I think that also what's happened is that expectations have been raised. At one time the production values of Hidden Frontier were enough to get people watching, now something like that is seen as too amateur to bother with but not everyone has the money for something fancier.

I think a part of the "true Trek" canard comes from the Vfx. If they hadn't been any good, no one would give a damn.

I have no problem with information, however, if anyone who wants to do a simple search will learn all about Alec Peters and Axanar.

My question remains unanswered. What is the endgame of Axamonitor? At what point do you say "Mission Accomplished"?

This thread isn't a "self-perpetuating cycle of hate"

Yes it is. I've seen members of this board I used to respect belittle Alec and his supporters ("Slow Lane"? Really? Despicable.) And it's never ceasing. Many here aren't even fan film fans. They're just piling on, attacking, relentless. It's disgusting, frankly, and I"m tired of it.

hell, I don't hate Alec Peters; what I hate is the immoral actions he continues to to engage in.

Well, good for you. But so many here just are just in it for the "fun" (as one person admitted) of taking down Alec Peters.

Lastly, so far, there's been four fan film producers who've chimed in here. As Nick pointed out, it's pointless to even try any more. This forum is no longer about fan films. It's about beating the dead horse that is Axanar.

Then WHY do you continue to read/participate in this ONE active tread about it in the Fan Film forum? You decide what to click/read. Don't want to read what's posted in this thread? Stop reading what's posted here.

Question: Do you actually believe Alec's actions are as Alec has stated, and he is just trying to get Axanar made? Alec seems to be the one who's dishonest about his intentions; and remember the original "Prelude To Axanar" was released in 2014 - and since then there's been one "Vulcan Scene", a lawsuit (settled in January 2017) - and two years after even that - there's yet to be any sort of finalized script -- BUT -- Alec is 100% into continued fundraising...

This THREAD is about Alec Peters/Prelude to Axanar and Axanar and people's continued discussion of the actions and progress toward such of Alec Peters and those still attached to that project.

The TREKBBS 'Fan Productions' forum is chock full of other threads promoting fan films and talking about other Fan Film productions; so sorry, you seem laser-focused on this one thread as if it is the entirety of the TREKBBS 'Fan Productions' forum; but it's not.
