Please, he's posting on the shrilliest, shilliest site in fandom, where the Usual Suspects grind their well-worn battle axes into stumps. Oh the integrity!

Not.

Eric Watts seems to be confused
He claims to support all fan films - a noble comment.
However, there is no Axanar fan film to support. Alec Peters - the "executive producer" has released no concrete or even vague evidence that the Axanar Lite project is in pre-production, or that he is expending any effort in beginning pre-production.
Alec claims to be working "part-time" but it seems his only actual attention to Axanar is using Prelude as a way to sell excess merchandise and sit on the occasional panel (after showing up late).

Thus, what Mr. Watts is doing is supporting all fan films AND Alec Peters, and THAT is what is driving the negativity being sent his way. By supporting the MAN not the fan film (Axanar doesn't exist in any supportable form) he is now hitching his wagon to a man who burnt through almost 2 million donated dollars, got sued into oblivion, is toxic to work with and for, regularly attacks anyone who dares ask questions, has a group of toadies/lackeys that will happily lie for him, sell merch for him, and give him the glory he demands, has cheated and lied and conned people for over a decade and in multiple businesses, and is unreliable, untrustworthy and a cancer on Trek fandom.

Mr. Watts seems to think that he can hide behind his purported support for all fan films. No sir. If you wish to support all fan films, abandon your support of Alec Peters, publicly repudiate his actions, and devote your efforts to getting into the good graces of the people who have actually contributed the fan film community.

^ No, no, you see: those objecting to Peters' inclusion are the rabid ones who are moving Watts to consider taking his marbles and going home.

Tell us how you really feel. ;) Seriously though, you hit the nail right on the head there.

I'm sorry, but he had to know what he was getting himself into the moment he brought Alec Peters.
I can kind of understand not wanting to uninvite him, what he really should have done was just not invite him in the first place.

If you're trying to say that Eric Watts should fear you guys more the the diehard Axanar supporters, what exactly does that say about you guys? Seems like you're asking him to choose the rock over the hard place.

With some of the events I've witnessed in fan films, it's high time for me to vent with a multi page rant and then hit the delete key.

I didn't see fear or intimidation anywhere in that rant (if I missed it, kindly point it out, thanks!). It's more - sheesh - the veneer of supporting "all" fan films is more of a cover for giving AP an undeserved platform, kudos, and attention.

In the last six months, he and I have made the same number of fan films. Where's my invitation to Treklanta?

I do hope it wasn't lost in the mail. Those meddling kids next door with their Great Dane dog and their van with the psychedelic colors and the words 'Mystery Machine' painted on the side - I bet it was them.

Seems like a couple of weeks ago Floyd was the center of attention. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw but without even looking for it I'm running into Alex's random "Those Hatter" posts. You would think he'd be happy the spotlight turned elsewhere, perhaps not. I kind of questioned what was up with a the public calling out concerning a parody video, the response was, "there is a method to the madness". Is that the point of all of this? Are we the soup that gets stirred at the masters bidding?
All bad things must come to an end, yet we don't like endings do we? It's attention getting and habit forming. The bloggers must blog and the posters must post.... about something. Meanwhile there must be something positive going on.

I think it's worth acknowledging that folks like @carlosp have dedicated enormous amounts of time and effort into maintaining a watchful eye on Alec's misdeeds. That is a worthy pursuit, and as long as an individual remains balanced, I don't think there is anything but commendation due to those who fight the good fight and keep Trek fans as safe as possible from rapacious folks like Alec.

Eric L. Watts, from the article:
He has become a lightning rod for controversy within Star Trek fandom and the object of online attacks unlike anything I’ve seen in my 40 years in fandom.
Many of these folks who previously supported and attended Treklanta now refuse to do so because of Mr. Peters’ presence at the convention, regardless of his membership status as either an announced guest or attending member.
That said, I have to close by stating that I despise being dragged into the middle of this controversy. I despise being the target of attacks by people who do not know me.
Seems to me he at least feels intimidated. Now, to be fair, it seems he had a preexisting, cordial relationship with AP and the Axanar supporters, so it seems they caught that metaphorical fly with honey rather than vinegar. That said, if Watts had refuse the to give the Axanar supporters a table after they followed proper convention procedure to get one, or had refused to allow AP to purchase a membership or be on a panel where one of the panel members and had requested his inclusion, or had refused to let a member and panelist take part in another panel about his own project, I doubt supporters of Axanar would have taken kindly to it. In fact, depending on the rules of the convention, they may have had some well-founded grievances, had that been the case.
It's more - sheesh - the veneer of supporting "all" fan films is more of a cover for giving AP an undeserved platform, kudos, and attention.
The alternative would be to create special convention rules to exclude controversial figures. What criteria should Eric Watts have used to pass judgment on Alec Peters? Some people who contributed to New Voyages have a beef with James Cawley. Should he be booted from Trekonderoga? I'm not saying there weren't valid reasons to exclude Peters from the convention. I'm just saying that the convention has rules and can't be seen as rejecting people arbitrarily who have otherwise obeyed those rules.

Perhaps if you were to write up some new rules that could be applied in a fair and impartial manner, Mr. Watts would consider them for next year. At the very least, they'd server as a template for other conventions.

Well, it would seem what you need to do is purchase an attending membership, then have your supporters go through the process of getting a table for your project, then get a panelist to request that you be added to a panel. Did you already do all of those things?
