Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Is anyone familiar with a British actress by the name of Charlotte Rampling? She's been in, among others, Zardoz, The Night Porter, Orca, The Verdict, Angel Heart, and most recently Basic Instinct 2. (And I personally thought that she was sexier than Sharon Stone! Don't know what that says about me...)

If Charlotte Rampling could play any character from Star Trek fiction, who would you cast her as?

Have we ever done casting suggestions for the Stargazer books? Lately I've been thinking Oded Fehr might be a good Ben Zoma.

Though I've been reviewing "The Battle" lately and I discovered this:

In Picard's flashbacks, this blonde woman is sitting at the Stargazer's helm station. Could this extra be the inspiration for Idun Asmund? I wonder who she was. She's not listed in the credits.

Except why would a helm officer be wearing blue? For that matter, the person at Tactical is in red -- and Picard asks weapons status from someone on the opposite side of the bridge from Tactical. Maybe Picard's memories were scrambled by the Ferengi thought-maker?

Possibly. Another possibility is that, just as the significance of the Starfleet colours changed between TOS and TNG, at the time the new uniforms were introduced to the Stargazer, the scheme was different from the one in place at the beginning of TNG (which still seemed to be in flux anyway).

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Apologies if this has been asked before in this thread, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on casting the Vanguard crew with 60s era actors. Imagine that Vanguard was a 60s TV series running contemporary with TOS, in the same way the CSI or Law And Order shows do today. Who would you cast?

Charles Bronson -- Diego Reyes
Asha Parekh -- Rana Desai
Albert Finney -- Tim Pennington
Slim Gaillard ? -- Zeke Fisher

An interesting exercise... but then I got to thinking about how the T'Prynn/Sandesjo scenes would be handled in 1966... and then which actresses now in their 60s and 70s to picture inthose scenes... and several synapses just blew out...

I just mentioned Charlotte Rampling earlier - but nobody's made any casting suggestions for her yet.

And I have yet another idea: Gregory Martin! Remember him as Colonel Ari ben Zayn in the first-season Babylon 5 episode Eyes (or Ben Hitler, as Michael Garibaldi amusingly refers to him)? Man, was he scary! I personally think he'd make a great Cardassian, myself...

For the sake of this exercise, let's pretend that the 60s era Vanguard is being done with no changes of content. Yeah, I know that that wouldn't be true of 60s TV/movies, but let's pretend anyway.

I like Charles Bronson as Reyes. Neat suggestion.

Olmos seems too old to be dating someone so young as Parminder Nagra (though I'm not sure she's right for Desai).

Actually, I really like Charles Bronson for the part, having had a little more time to consider him outside the confines of the 60s.

I'm sorry, but I can only picture Commodore Reyes as Edward James Olmos.
Same here. He's the only character for whom I don't agree with David Mack's casting choice.

Vaughn Armstrong is pretty cool, but I don't know if he'd be right for Elias Vaughn.

^ I actually do like the idea of Tommy Lee Jones as Reyes. Any time someone mentions Olmos in a Trek context, I keep thinking 'Klingon' (since he was the first choice for Kruge in ST III).

I realize this is slightly off the drift of the conversation here, but I've just been re-reading Margaret Wander Bonanno's excellent Strangers from the Sky and thought I'd offer the following casting suggestions if anyone's interested:

Jason Nyere: James Earl Jones
Melody Sawyer: Jodie Foster
T'Lera: Sigourney Weaver or Camille Saviola
Sorahl: Tom Welling
Yoshi: don't know about this one
Tatya: ditto
Parneb: Either Alexander Siddig or the late Roddy McDowall (I know Parneb's supposed to be Egyptian, but I could so clearly imagine Roddy saying some of Parneb's lines).

I'm about to start on Diane Carey's Final Frontier next - any suggestions for who could play George Kirk or Robert April?

 Yes, probably. I put Sigourney for the steel in T'Lera's character, and Camille for the serenity she brought to Opaka, which would work well for the Vulcan T'Lera as well.
