Maybe so, but they are both completely independent countries, I guess it would be like comparing Cuba and America, yes they might be close, but still, they're totally different. But bar going to the States for a Con, Dublin is not as far and a lot cheaper.
And if someone from England were to say, "I won't be going to New Jersey, but I will be going to Cuba," I wouldn't consider that an inappropriate response. The issue being discussed is distance, not whether or not the two destinations mentioned are part of the same state.
Yes, Compared with New York, Dublin is far closer to where I am in England, but still, they are two different nations and separated by a few miles.
