Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Re: Casting

Sam Waterston as Captain Norman Kenyon
(Needs no introduction whatsoever. We can see him every week as District Attorney Jack McCoy on Law & Order. Has also had prominent roles in many other films, including The Killing Fields and Crimes And Misdemeanors.)
Every week, hell -- between A&E and TNT reruns, not to mention TD Waterhouse commercials, you can see him a dozen times or so a day....

The only (admitedly minor) problem with that image of Casnof for Vaughn circa SAtR is that Vaughn didn't grow the facial hair until many years later as per "The Art of the Impossible".

The new Sonic Shaver, from Norelco: The Official Grooming Company of Starfleet.

I cheated him out of an "f" before, it's actually "Casnoff". Sorry.

That's not bad either. But I've gotten so used to him as Lt. Gordon ("Batman Begins") that I'm not sure I'll be able to picture him as a bad guy anymore. :p

That's ironic. His casting as good guy Gordon in BB came as a shock to many because he's played so many bad guys over the years. Dracula, Leon (The Professional), True Romance, Lost in Space, The Contender, Murder in the First, The Firm (not the Cruise movie), Made in Britain, etc. etc. But I guess if BB is what you first saw him in, then that's gonna stick.

Nope, it's not the first thing I saw him in, just the most recent. One that sticks out is Air Force One, where he did a very good job as a crazy bad guy, and also The Fifth Element, where he played an even crazier bad guy. But I still think the skin that he wore in Batman Begins suited him best.
Also, I've heard Oldman quoted as saying (when someone made a similar point to him) that he's played just as many good guys as bad guys, but the bad guys were just in higher profile movies.

Re: Casting

I was just re-reading Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens' Deep Space Nine: Millenium omnibus, and I had a couple of ideas for casting there:

Sarah Douglas as Leej Terrell
(She was, of course, Ursa in Superman II. And she played the war criminal Jha'dur in B5's Deathwalker.)

Michael Berryman as Atrig
(Pluto in The Hills Have Eyes, the Bolian Captain Rixx in TNG's Conspiracy, and you may even remember him from Motley Crue's Smokin' In The Boys' Room video!)

I am kind of stuck for ideas as far as casting Commander Arla is concerned, however...

Re: Casting

After seeing Suzie Plakston in person at the Star Trek Experience in Vegas over the weekend, let me nth the nomination of her for Treir.

Casting Captain Gold from the SCE novels....

Who would be a good candidate for Captain Gold of the SCE novels?

Forgive me if this question has already been asked...

This character is in his 70s(!) with a somewhat tough, yet grandfatherly demeanor...and a grey beard...with a Jewish faith...

Hmm...

Richard Dreyfuss...?

Re: Casting Captain Gold from the SCE novels....

^ No, Dreyfuss is all wrong. Harry Morgan really is the dream casting for that part, even though he's retired from acting.

Somebody I occasionally think might work is Hal Holbrook....

Harry Morgan...(Hmm, that could be interesting)...

Although, I think Hal Holbrook works better...(especially in this pic)...

Re: Casting Captain Gold from the SCE novels....

^ Well, understand, the template for Gold is pretty much Col. Sherman Potter, only Jewish.

I've been re-reading DS9: Mission Gamma and just thought that Teri Polo ( Helen Santos from the West Wing) would make a great Counsellor Phillipa Matthias.

Come to think about it Jimmy Smits wouldn't be a bad choice for her bajoran husband.

^ I like that choice. I've been struggling to find someone for her, and now I have. I think I actually have the entire DS9-R cast now. I can't remember all of my choices but here's the ones I do remember:
Prynn: Maggie Q
Shar: I think I'd heard some people say B.D. Wong
Treir: Suzie Plakson
Phillipa: Teri Polo
I can't remember who I had cast for Vaughn though.

I still like Jennifer Connelly for Soleta. I'm reposting this Photoshop I did, simply because I can. :D

When I think elf, I think Tolkien elf and she doesn't look like a Tolkien elf in my book. She looks too...I don't know..."cutesy innocent," maybe? I don't know.

Umm...Wow. I actually do think she would be a pretty cool, Soleta. But, I remember someone say Lucy Liu and I thinks she would be pretty good as her too.

Maggie Q ... NO WAY!
B.D. Wong ... again, NO WAY!
