Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

I've seen Boogie Nights.

Well like I said it was that and Mystery Alaska that really influenced me. In his later work from that Boogie period forward his voice seems to have deepened considerably and it tends to lend him a greater gravity. Whoever would be cast as Vaughn I think would have to have a fairly deep voice. On many levels Sean Connery isn't a terrible choice but the man seems in rl to be such an asshat that personally I wouldn't want him anywhere near a Trek project. My first runner up is probably James Brolin.

I've got to admit, when I hear people debating whether Elias Vaughn should be played by Sean Connery or Burt Reynolds, all I can picture is this:

^ You may as well say 'take a look at Boxleitner in those Gambler movies he did with Kenny Rogers' and say he's not suitable. There's more to Burt than his good ol' boy persona from the likes of Cannonball Run.

I came to like Boxleitner a lot from his work on B5. But personally I've always seen and heard Burt Reynold's as Vaughn.

Think of Burt Reynold's from Cannonball Run and Cannonball Run II and you'll soon see it's not a good fit (IMHO).

Have a look at this image of Boxleitner and you'll see he fits as Vaughn very well.

I agree with you Captain, but at the same time I can understand where Jwolf is coming from. There are some actors who get stuck in your mind in a certain way and nothing else they do will ever erase that image.

^ I know what you mean.

FWIW, I don't see Burt as Vaughn either but I think he's a better actor than he gets credit for. I love him in Deliverance, for one.

Any suggestions for the new DS9 crew?
I was thinking Shemar Moore for Chief Blackmer and maybe Sean Patrick Flanery(maybe a little old now though)for Stinson.

^After googling the actual Aneta Smrhova, i'd like to see the actual Aneta Smrhova in the role of security chief Aneta Smrhova :techman:

...oh and BTW...it may be a good idea not to google images of her while at work ;)

Seems way too young.

There's this thing called makeup... ;)

Other than his age, and he's not that much younger than Boxleitner, I think he's got the gravitas and the attitude to pull it off.

ETA: In fact, Mark Harmon is only a little over a year younger than Bruce Boxleitner, who a lot of people seem to like as Vaughn...

I see Boxlritner doing the role, but I just cannot see Harmon doing it.

Hi, I'm new.

Just wanted to say, for Shar, I always pictured Anderson, the Manchester United midfielder, but back when he still had dreadlocks.

Harmon is great in NCIS, but he doesn't fit my idea of Vaughn.

He doesn't exactly fit my perfect idea of Vaughn, either, honestly, but he's the closest I've come to finding one. When I saw people suggesting Boxleitner for Vaughn, I just couldn't see him in the role. Harmon is more... serious, I guess. Vaughn isn't as gruff as Gibbs on NCIS, but Boxleitner just seems too... lightweight to me.

But then, how are we ever going to find someone who's basically Sean Connery without the accent? lol
