T'MIR: Home. Up north

 

[Athena28]

JACK: I'm going to miss you. You're about the most interesting people I've met in this town.

 

[retroenzo]

T'MIR: I'm sure you'll meet a lot of interesting people at college.

 

[Leandar]

Jack: I'm not going.

 

[retroenzo]

T'MIR: What? Why not?

 

[mattman8907]

JACK: We couldn't come up with the rest of the money. The deadline for the tuition's Friday, so...

 

[Athena28]

T'MIR: What will you do?

 

[retroenzo]

JACK: Keep saving, I guess. Find a job. Mom doesn't want me anywhere near the mine but that's where the work is around here.

 

[Athena28]

T'MIR: Can you try again next year for the scholarship?​

 

[mattman8907]

JACK: I'll reapply, but there's no guarantee.

 

[Athena28]

T'MIR: I'm sure they will offer it to you again.

 

[retroenzo]

JACK: And if not, there's always the library. Still a lot of books I haven't read. Good luck up north. Carbon Creek's not exactly a vacation spot, but I hope you'll come visit us.

 

[Athena28]

T'MIR: Perhaps.

 

[mattman8907]

(Maggie has been listening at the door.)
MAGGIE: He took those college boards, got the highest score of anybody in the county. it's not fair.

 

[Athena28]

[Bad Creek Manufacturing and Sales Company]

BUSINESSMAN: So, you're the lady with the invention that's going to change the world.

 

[retroenzo]

(She hands him a pouch fastened by Velcro. He tries it a few times, and beams. She leaves with a sheaf of bank notes.)

[Pine Tree bar]

MAGGIE: Morning.
(Then she sees all the bank notes in Jack's college fund jar.)
MAGGIE: Jack! Jack!

[Vulcan's apartment]

(T'Mir is washing up, Mestral is sweeping the floor and Stron is working on something.)
T'MIR: Didn't you terminate your employment?

 

[retroenzo]

STRON: Yes, but I promised Mrs. Garrett I'd repair this suction device.

 

[mattman8907]

MESTRAL: It's unfortunate that you'll be leaving these people without experiencing one thing they have to offer.
