Captain Marvel (2019)

Marvel didn't steal anything. Blame DC for losing control of the name. That has been explained to you multiple times. Your repeating this wrong statement does not make it true.
When Marvel claimed the name, I don't think DC had control over the name or the character.

I'm sure they didn't, more that they had the opportunity to take over control when they, basically, put the character out of business. 5's contention of Marvel theft of the name is just factually wrong.
Sale on super-hero books were taking a nose dive then. Fawcett's titles were taking a pretty big hit, from what I understand. Which is one of the reasons they gave in. DC probably didn't see it a a good investment.
Yeah, 5's is wrong.

Not to imply a zero sum game of things, but with sales diving, DC may have felt it was better having fewer titles similar to Superman, especially a title in a sales slump, rather than sell it themselves? Besides, the title just may not have fit whatever editorial/sales vision they had for DC Comics at the time?

I wonder if they’ll say Captain Marvel in Shazam. Freddy after all is Captain Marvel Jr and Mary Bateson is Mary Marvel.

I find it hilarious that the Rock has been cast to play Black Adam since 2004 and when they finally make the movie, he’s confirmed to not be in it. :)
It has been said however that Superman has a cameo in it. If true it will automatically be my favourite movie of the year.

DC just didn’t copyright the name when they acquired Fawcett. Pity.
They didn't acquire Fawcett. As the result of the lawsuit and declining sales Fawcett stopped publishing comics. Because of that the name "Captain Marvel" became available for Marvel Comics in the 1960's. In the 70's DC acquired the license to publish Fawcett's Captain Marvel. They didn't acquire the IP outright until the 80's or later.

It is strange to have two Captain Marvel films in one year. I expect I'll like the DC one more since I'm more of a DC fan.
I was thinking the same thing. I already have the 1941 Captain Marvel serial in my library so I'm more familiar with Shazam than the female version of which I've never even read the comics.

But I still won't see either until they hit DVD. A fact that should please Brie Larson no end since she's made it clear she doesn't want my money anyway........

And they say nobody respects the old traditional values anymore...

He thinks that he's making a statement about Brie Larson's recent comments about wanting more representation from WoC at press events and such. Somehow a very fragile segment of the audience thinks that this is an attack on their white manliness.
Commenting on it yes, but in a facetious way.

White men getting upset about anything associated with Captain Marvel is the most pathetic, crybaby reaction to anything. White men have been represented on screen since film began. They've become the default. Now there's been an increased focus on greater diversity in film and some losers just can't handle it. They're like selfish little children who want the entire pizza and not lose a single slice. If they do, they pitch a fit and go give the pizza place bad reviews on Yelp.

Black people have to worry about being killed at routine police stops. Jewish people have to worry about their places of worship being burned down or shot up by racists. LGBTQ people are constantly having to fight for their civil rights. White men are upset about the next Marvel movie being about a girl.
