Captain Marvel (2019)

White men getting upset about anything associated with Captain Marvel is the most pathetic, crybaby reaction to anything. White men have been represented on screen since film began. They've become the default. Now there's been an increased focus on greater diversity in film and some losers just can't handle it. They're like selfish little children who want the entire pizza and not lose a single slice. If they do, they pitch a fit and go give the pizza place bad reviews on Yelp.

Black people have to worry about being killed at routine police stops. Jewish people have to worry about their places of worship being burned down or shot up by racists. LGBTQ people are constantly having to fight for their civil rights. White men are upset about the next Marvel movie being about a girl.
No.
...Well I'm glad you cleared all that up for us. Expertly and thoughtfully put!
I am entirely convinced and am in no way engaging in neither satire nor sarcasm in my congratulations for this thoughtfully persuasive, witty response...

Well, I could elaborate further, but let's be honest here.

Would anything I have to say be listened to reasonably?

No it would not.

Would I be dismissed out of hand as a racist, mysognist, evil bigot?

Yes I would.

So what would be the point?

Well, actually yes. You’re overreacting to having to share Marvel movies now. If you don’t like that, too bad. Society has left you behind and we’re better because of that. You’re trying to limit art and expression.
My "no" was a response to your claim that I have a problem with a superhero movie about women. But you believe whatever you want that makes you feel better. I wouldn't want to intrude on your safe space.

Give it a shot.

@RandyS, you quoted a lot of stuff, and simply said, "No." Does that mean you disagree with all of it? If you disagree with only some of it, which are the parts that you agree with?

edit - OK, so I see you elaborated further as I was posting this. I'll concur with @Nerys Myk below about the "safe space" remark not helping your case.

Yeah, that's not helping your case

The idea that "art and expression" isn't severely and arbitrarily limited by these movies being made under the absolute control of the Disney corporation, which values them primarily for their contribution to the bottom line, is laughable.

Talk to James Gunn about the right and freedom to create and express himself through his art.

Diverse representation in commercial media is a good thing, but it's happening only because corporations correctly understand that demographic targeting of all kinds is key to maximizing their revenue. They care about what's right and what's good for "society" not one jot.

Considering that Marvel is way behind the curve on this one, they're really not due any congratulations for finally putting a superhero played by a woman center stage - particularly given that they've had Johannson under contract playing one of their avatars for years.

A couple of clips, to hopefully bring things back on track...

If you're so convinced that your views are going to be universally dismissed as racist, misogynistic bigotry then perhaps you should think and consider how you're putting these views across. Failing that, maybe you should consider some introspection and ask yourself "maybe it's *not* just everyone else being a jerk."

But I suppose if lashing out and playing the victim makes you feel better, I suppose you can do that too.

Well, I think there is blame on both sides. You know, the racist, misogynistic and bigot side and the, err, uhmm, their victims side..?
